This month sees the release of Shantae And The Seven Sirens on the Nintendo Switch and multiple other platforms after the first half of the game was released on the new Apple Arcade service last September.
This next chapter in the Shante series will arrive digitally on 28th May and to go with this, the physical specialists Limited Run Games will be releasing hard copies on the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. Those interested will be able to select from the standard edition ($34.99 USD) or a Limited Collector's Edition ($69.99 USD) including a copy of the game, a SteelBook case, a commemorative "non-functional" Game Boy cart, soundtrack, and much more.
We're excited to announce physical editions of @WayForward's Shantae and the Seven Sirens for PS4 & Switch! Four-week pre-orders open at 10am ET on Friday, May 15 over on http://limitedrungames.com.
On top of the Standard Edition, PS4 & Switch Collector's Editions will be available to pre-order for four weeks starting at 10am ET on May 15 on http://limitedrungames.com! Each CE includes a copy of the game, a SteelBook case, a commemorative Game Boy cart, and more.
As for when these physical versions will ship, you might have to wait a while:
Our physical products typically ship 2-3 months after the pre-order window closes/after the date of the initial sale. Manufacturing updates will be located on both the product page and on your order page for easy checking.
Will you be purchasing a physical copy of Shantae And The Seven Sirens, or playing the digital version on day one? Tell us below.

...not to mention, maybe my favorite part of the collectors edition, a cd soundtrack. The music in Shantae games is always stellar.
Oh no.... I was already planning on purchasing a physical copy... but now that collector's edition is staring my wallet down. Will definitely be purchasing one of the editions, just need to decide which.
I know this isn't Push Square, but it's so weird to see a Nintendo cart in the PS4 collectors edition.
What's up with that Gameboy cartridge? It looks like it has an actual board and internal backup battery!
Nabbing this
It's good for collectors, When is the pre-purchase of this game on eshop? Same time?
@Shunk1 Much like the Pirates curse CE it's a non-functional dummy cart.
It looks pretty cool from a distance, but close up you can tell it's just a 2d printed image.
I know I will be buying this. Loved 1/2 Genie Hero on the Wii U (own the physical disc), so I look forward to having this one as well on Switch. There are only a few games here and there I buy from Limited Run, but Shantae is a must-own. I'm still kicking myself for not getting the Pirates Curse release a couple of years back... kick kick kick
$70... isn't a bad price for a special edition. I've never bought anything like that before, but I've enjoyed every Shantae game I've played so far, so maybe I'll finally bite.
Everytime something limited goes up like this, it costs so much more due to shipping and conversion, than simply just releasing a normal retail edition one could grab locally without the exorbitant shipping cost. Sigh... 😡
Almost forgot this was coming out. That physical copy is tempting... but I just might go digital. Maybe.
"Our physical products typically ship 2-3 months after the pre-order window closes/after the date of the initial sale."
Digital, very much so.
Disheartening to see that the CE didn't have a Smash amiibo, but, the June announcement hasn't happened yet! And let's not forget Banjo-Kazooie's Totaku with the Smash backpack! #shantaeforsmash
I'm gonna double dip and get both a digital copy and the physical collector's edition.
Physical for me, PS4 and Switch version. I might get the collector's edition.
@EVIL-C Yeah I really dislike Limited Run these days. It's like the idea of physical editions is nice but it has become an excuse to charge way too much.
@JayJ well they aren't going to sell limited time copies for dirt cheap to you, aint how this works.
@DarkLloyd Well that's pretty much the problem. It's become some lame collectors market.
@DarkLloyd That isn't the point. For one thing, Shantae has no business being exclusive to a one time limited print. Wayforward is not a tiny, indie studio with 3 people, sacrificing everything for a make-or-break project. They're an established 20+ year old business.
To quote Mr. Krabs, I have a bad feeling in the pit of me wallet...
The game and soundtrack would be awesome to have (everything else is just shelf-filler), but I don't know about $70.
Yeesh. Gunna have to think about this. Good thing I've got a week.
Oh, c'mon! Always LRG...
This game should have a normal release too. Half-Genie Hero was in stores and with a special edition too.
It's not so limited, you can buy as much as you like for 4 weeks
@MasterGraveheart I'll be doing this with physical on Switch (CE maybe. SE for sure) and a digital Steam copy later on on sale.
Wow, that special edition is gorgeous.
I'll be downloading it at launch on Switch, and probably will grab the physical Special Edition on PS4 from LRG.
I’ll be getting the digital release and the soundtrack digital as well. This set looks a treat but a bit too rich for my blood at this time.
@DockEllisD That’s interesting. Is it cheaper because you are comparing the special editions? Because I just checked Amazon Japan and SOR is about $8 more for me there than the standard edition on Limited Run. Very interested in this if there is a standard edition for Japan.
I really appreciate that this limited edition is an open pre-order.
There's a ton of stress involved with waiting to purchase a limited edition with actual limited stock at a certain time, when orders can sell out within minutes.
It means I can order this with confidence and get it alongside my Shantae and the Pirate's Curse limited edition.
@EVIL-C
The owner of LRG claims that they're actually losing money on shipping to international customers.

As in, they could be charging more for the already hefty international shipping charges to avoid this loss, but are not.
@JayJ
The way I look at it is, these limited print games (especially on Nintendo consoles) will hold their value. Yes they might be expensive initially but look at it as an investment. Buy the games that you know you'll enjoy playing. Once completed, you can either keep to collect (my preference) or whack it on eBay where I'm sure you'll get back at least what you have paid (inc shipping fee) once seller fees have been deducted. At least with LRG the pre-orders are open albeit for a short period of time making their limited print games achievable to get hold of. If it's a game you really want and this is the only option to buy it physical, it's best to buy from shops such as LRG, Super Rare, Strictly Limited etc. You don't want to miss out where then your only option is to buy from some a-hole non-gamer who purchased a gazillion copies purely for selling games at a far more higher rate. This practice sucks but I guess was inevitable with the rise of these limited print shops.
@RPGamer Same, but from LRG's perspective it takes a few months to start manufacturing and there are logistics involved. That and they don't want to have too much excess stock so they always order to the amount that was pre-ordered with maybe a few extra copies here and there to give to influencers or for give-a-ways.
I ordered Streets of Rage 4 and Panzer Dragoon through LRG and I won't be enjoying them till mid-summer. But, to own some of these games that I know will mean something to me is worth the wait. I just wish that someday they make a standard run branch. Where they know some games will continue to be popular like Shantae, Streets of Rage, Celest, etc. Or do a label called 2nd Run, where they re-issue a bunch of popular hits for just an open order. That would be nice to see someday.
@RPGamer It does continue the tradition of mock cartridges, plus the (albeit small) poster and cards are interesting, on top of being good for people that collect steelbooks, so yeah, I see this selling well!
Nice would definitely get my copy soon.
@RupeeClock There wouldn't be a problem if more publishers wouldn't skimp out on hard copies in the first place.
@EVIL-C
Wayforward self-publish their digital titles, I believe that their own avenue for physical publication is through Limited Run Games.
That, and they're good buddies with LRG, who actually funded the development Wayforward's Vitamin Connection.
@DockEllisD That’s cool. The last time I tried to circumvent Amazon shipping and have my buddy in Tokyo send me something I paid a small fortune in shipping. I’m kind of amazed that for me to buy a game from Limited Run costs about the same as from somewhere like Strictly Limited even though I’m in the U.S.
Thanks limitedrungames, for empting my wallet.
@RupeeClock That can't soley be the case. I got 1/2 Genie Hero through regular retail. It wasn't a LRG exclusive.
I don't feel bad for them if they're losing money on international shipping. Some things I get it having a small print, while others from bigger studios absolutely should be released through normal retail channels. It's like the silly argument of eliminating manuals and "eco" cases. It was to save money, not the planet. They couldn't care less. 🌎
I so regret not being able to be a backer on the 1/2 Genie Hero Kickstarter. This Limited Collectors Edition feels right to get. Love the series.
I'll wait for the best buy copies.
