Brazilian football team Botafogo has just signed Japanese veteran midfielder Keisuke Honda – and to give him a proper welcome, it has created a special video based on the opening to the original Pokémon games on the Game Boy.
In case you didn't know, Honda has 90 caps for the Japanese national side to his name, and is perhaps most famous for playing for Italian Serie A side AC Milan during the 2015-2016 season. Since then, he has played for Pachuca, Melbourne Victory and Vitesse Arnhem.
He began his career in 2005 with the Japanese side Nagoya Grampus Eight (fans of former England striker Gary Lineker might recall that name) and has also played for VVV-Venlo and CSKA Moscow during his time in the sport.
Thanks to Nakamuramartin for the heads up!

Nice warm welcome, there! Sad that his team sucks, even in the local tournament (campeonato carioca).
for the last time, hire sprite/pixel artists please
He’s an absolute legend so it’s good to see his new team that excited to have signed him.
@Adzri it's a bit of light hearted fun for an audience who for the most part probably wouldn't know the difference so dont see the need for proper pixel artists.
That’s rather funny!
Nintendo suing them in 3, 2, 1...
@Pr0fitt3R there is a difference from stealing game to showing off.dude at the last awards show brought his switch on stage.lol
Cool I guess, but the video just looks terrible. And the sound has nothing to do with what's happening on screen.
as a Brazilian and Pokémon fan I'm actually kind of offended by that video
@xpownz
This guy has no idea what he's saying. Botafogo is one of the biggest and most important clubs in Brazil's history.
@Vinicius_Berger Botafogo was important, it used to provide the best players that won World Cups for Brazil, but now it's a shadow of its former self.
Man, did you actually missed his prime time with Milan?
he played like 4 years on the italian side, very good player
Love to see this.
The real captain Tsubasa!
...so he likes Pokémon or did they just assume that because he's Japanese?
