After years of inactivity, the Wonder Boy franchise is enjoying something of a resurgence thanks to the release of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap and Monster Boy, the latter being a kind of spiritual sequel. However, it's not the only Wonder Boy-themed release we've seen in recent years; the PC and PS4-based Wonder Boy Returns hit the market in 2016.
Now, thanks to a listing on the Korean Game Ratings and Administration Committee, we can be pretty sure that the game will be making the leap over to Switch in the near future.
As the title suggests, this is a remake of the original game with improved visuals, but it was met with a rather lukewarm reception at launch due to the iffy controls, lacklustre animation and general lack of polish.
The 'Remix' at the end of the title would suggest that Switch owners might benefit from some additional content, but what shape that might take is anyone's guess.

Hopefully it's better than the Gamecube remake: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uScHrGvdqA0
And the awful WiiWare version:

I think I'd rather play Aggelos.
@deKay
To be clear, this isn't the Hudson Soft / Adventure Island side of this game's history, but the original Wonder Boy, before it delved off into the Monster Land side.
Wonder Boy is in a pretty unusual licensing situation currently, since Westone shut down.
Huh, I had no idea Adventure Island had any relation to Wonder Boy.
Hopefully they actually do update the gameplay and graphics. This looks like a flash game.
@RupeeClock Oh sure, but back this far in the series they're virtually the same game
@deKay I find your mixture of tenses disturbing.
@deKay OMG !!!!!!!
I 'll have nightmares tonight.
@Synthatron_Prime
I doubt it's going to change much from the Steam and PS4 versions.
This got a Strictly Limited Games physical release for PS4 too somehow. It might get the same for Switch.
This doesn't look like something I will pick up, but I'm happy that their fans get the opportunity to have it on the Switch.
I remember reading the Hardcore Gaming 101 review of this and they said it was terrible. Not holding out much hope.
Wonderboy: Flash Edition much?
On a side note, can we give some Dragon Trap treatment to the Adventure Island series? That's "my" jam right there
I would prefer to play the original than the remake. the remake just looks cheap
I think I’ll stick with the VC Adventure Island games, Thank you.
Loved the game in my days but I am not turned on by this Returns trailer, at all.
The game was incredibly awful (more so than the NES, Turbo Grafx-16, GameCube, and WiiWare versions), I do not ever want this on my Switch.
I loved the original even if it was hard as balls. But this looks terrible, the art style is basic and like they didnt really care at all. Look at Dragon trap that was a damn near flawless and true recreation, this looks like a cheap knockoff you see on Android or iOS.
I played the original on Master System to death.
@retro_player_22 the very original one was Sega MasterSystem, it was awesome but hard as well and super twitchy controls.
Poor wonder boy, all he wanted was a little polygamy.
Oh boy this looks bad... Pass
His new hairdo makes his head shape too long. Wonderboy has always looked rather round. Apart from that, yeah, it looks like Wonderboy. One of my favourite Master System games. Hope it includes the original.
This look great but i would love a monster's lair remake!.
Crap dev. Unless it’s made by M2 or lizard cube, your retro remake is a cash grabbing crap dev.
I like Adventure Island name more. lmao
@deKay That’s Adventure Island. But that looks terrible
Now I'm a little closer to get the entire series.
@earthinheritor It was ORIGINALLY an arcade game. Arcade games were always hard so they could eat your money.
Sega actually ported the game to both the SG-1000 and the Master System ("Mark III") in Japan but they had to call the latter "Super" Wonder Boy to distinguish them.
Though I thought heard of some copyright ownership issue of "Wonder Boy" after Westone died.
It was said that there was a Master System fan book author who was asked not to feature any "Wonder Boy" games, suspected for the above reason. So I read he reviewed the Brazilian license-rebranded versions.
@KingMike Did not know it was an arcade game very interesting. So damn tough on MS though, awesome game but never did complete it.
I thought this game was going to be crap but finally picked it up while I was still in a Wonder Boy high and quite enjoyed it. I put about 4 hours into and got a few levels into the hardcore mode.
Id be down for a physical release!
So its just a Flash game
Also, it looks like a choppy mess in the video but it runs at 60fps for those that care.
WHY, after we got the Monster Boy masterpiece?
meh, looks more like a flash game. it feels like a step backward to me, comparing to previous releases. I'm not sure what was the thinking in this.
