UK studio Rebellion has revealed that it is rebooting its popular Rogue Trooper video game adapation for the Nintendo Switch and other systems.
Based on the 2000 AD comic strip, Rogue Trooper Redux uses the 2006 original - which was ported to the Wii in 2009 under the title Rogue Trooper: The Quartz Zone Massacre - as its template, and will be developed by TickTock Games, making it the first 2000 AD title to be produced outside of Rebellion's offices.
Here's the full PR:
The most feared soldier on Nu Earth is back in business! ROGUE TROOPER REDUX will bring 2000 AD®'s blue-skinned GI to Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®4, Xbox One and PC.
In 2006, the original ROGUE TROOPER set the benchmark for video game adaptations of comic books. Developed by Rebellion®, the studio behind Sniper Elite 4 and owners of British comic book powerhouse 2000 AD®, it was widely acclaimed for bringing the cult sci-fi strip to life in an authentic, tactical, cover-based third-person shooter that debuted before the genre became the gaming staple it is today.
ROGUE TROOPER REDUX will remaster the Rebellion® classic for a new generation of players, taking them to the chem-blasted battlefields of Nu Earth. Rogue, a bio-engineered Genetic Infantryman (or "GI") immune to the planet's poisonous atmosphere, is the last soldier standing against the colonial Nort regime. Carrying three fallen comrades as biochips in his equipment, Rogue is a one-unit squad of death and destruction, and he only has one thing on his mind - REVENGE.
ROGUE TROOPER REDUX is being developed in partnership with experienced UK studio TickTock Games, making it the first 2000 AD® game developed outside of Rebellion®. The game also marks the first of potentially many externally developed 2000 AD® games after announcing it will open up its wealth of iconic IP - such as Judge Dredd and Sláine - to other developers.
The original game was a pretty entertaining cover shooter, and the Wii version added some welcome motion controls to the mix. How do you think this remastered edition will stand up against the games of 2017, and will you be investing in the Switch version? Let us know by posting a comment.

This was actually a pretty cool game, curious if it will convince me to buy it again.
Loved the original, loved the Wii version despite unnecessary motion gimmicks. Looking forward to this.
Oh... I still have the Wii Game. Its one of my favorites.
I always planned on buying the Wii version but never got around to it, definitely getting this version on Switch !!
Of all HDmakes, this was one I expected the least.
I always thought it fell apart in the last 3rd.
Also not convinced it will stand up today. It was pretty dated even in 2009. Will need to be more than just a remaster
I loved the comics ,I'll keep an eye on this one, see how the reviews shape up...
This was a OK game
It was a fun little game, and for Wii standards, actually looked pretty decent too. This news makes me curious, so I hope that they come up with some actual in-game footage some time soon.
I have a feeling that it might be going in the direction of Borderlands style visuals to adhere more closely to its comic book heritage.
How about an Alien Vs Predator Collection too?!
Great studio, I had no idea they did anything for the Wii. I will have to check that out.
A surprising choice for a remake but I can get behind it
Hate the trailer, didn't even show game footage.
Here's the original for reference.
good move putting 'repost' in the tweets now when they're retweets of earlier new items. thanks for that.
btw i participated in the ubisoft open beta for ghost recon wildlands. in the survey afterwards, they ask if i've heard of the nintendo switch and my answer was 'yes and have already pre-ordered'. take that as you will for the status of anything ghost recon on switch for the future. it's a neat game from what i played.
Meh.
