I agree.
I honestly don't care, but I do feel anger or some sort of jealousy inside me. Must be because, as a massive Smash fan, I don't like any sort of copies of Smash. I just want people to enjoy the main source because that's what the original idea is made. I mean this project wouldn't be happening if it wasn't for Smash in the first place. I sound like a bit of a jerk.
Though, someone loving Smash Bros a lot and making their thing with Touhou. In general, I don't like the look of this. But I don't care where it goes.

On the game website, the first thing the developer wrote about is Super Smash Bros. Melee and how it inspired him to make this game.So people that don't know Smash can just copy-paste on Google the words "Super Smash Bros. Melee".

Yuck. An anime Smash Melee rip-off? No thanks.

You want anime-ish characters in Smash? Then go play Smash 4 (Marth, Lucina, Ike, Robin, Shulk, Pit, Palutena, Dark Pit).
You want Melee? Then go play Melee.
You want even MORE Melee? Then go play Project M.

This is useless, pointless, unnecessary, redundant, and worthless IMO.

Smash Mains:
N64: Captain Falcon
Melee: Mario
Brawl: Sonic
Project M: Link
Smash 3DS: Captain Falcon
Smash Wii U: Ganondorf

Smash is a fairly typical fighting game, you know. A lot of fighting games existed before Smash.

I can't say a whole lot due to the fact that the game is so early in development, but it looks like it adds quite a few original elements. I'd hold out a bit before labeling it as a Smash clone.

As someone who's actually PLAYED the Touhou fighting games, this seems more like the gameplay from those games, with the emphasis on airtime and long-ranged attacks, just with a Smash Bros layout. Anyway, this is pretty good for 4 months in development.

and still looks better than PS AllStars Battle Royale.

With just Smash, Tekken, Injustice and a few VC Street Fighters this adds at least one more title to the fighting genre on Wii U.

They should take their time though as we all have plenty to do with Smash at the moment.

I don't think typical is what you call Smash Bros. I don't see another game involving Megaman and Pacman brawling it out by increasing a percentage meter to knock each other out of the screen on Green-Hill zone while Items like Super Mushrooms and Galaga ships. I don't know any other fighting game with the same core mechanic before Smash 64 either.

Fan made derivative work definitely deserves to exist. The Touhou community is very large and full of creativity. These fans deserve to be inspired, create, and share their work with other fans. That goes for Smash too. To enjoy something enough to want to create something new out of it and share it with others who also enjoyed it, that's the sort of thing that keeps a community alive. The goal of this project isn't to "improve" or "rip off" Smash. It's to celebrate it. That's why they're seeking to put it on the eShop, to share it with other fans of Smash.

And if it's actually good and not using any copyrighted material, then it deserves to profit too.

That said, the character models are a little spotty. Would have looked better with 2D sprite models, like Guilty Gear/BlazBlue.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

Very true. I am also very excited about this title, especially after feeling a tiny bit left out after the announcement of several Touhou fan titles OKed by Shanghai Alice for the PS4. The game does look very promising. but within these next few months of development, it'll hopefully gather it's own identity instead of being a clone with some variations.

You're also right about the community. These guys are CRAZY, but (a majority of it) in the awesome way, filled with many talented developers, musicians, and artists that enjoy celebrating it. If this "commercializing" Touhou thing managed to happen, I can see it being the next Megaman or Contra in the eyes of gamers.

I have the knee jerk reaction to these kinds of fighters too, but really it's not different than saying Sonic is a rip-off of Mario or Mega Man is a rip-off of Contra.
Tekken, Virtua Fighter, they weren't rip-offing Street Fighter. They were just new entries in the genre. I think Smash has created its own sub-genre of fighting and I'm surprised there isn't even more clones. If PlayStation All Stars can exist, I see no problem with this.

Actually, there was a SSB styled game quite a few years before SSB. It was called The Outfoxies, made by Namco and released in arcades in 1994 (pre-dating SSB by 4 years I think).

Anyway, I for the one do not mind more SSB styled fighting games being made. Whilst admittedly what drew me into SSB was it's collaboration of Nintendo characters, the core gameplay is unique and fun, and I've enjoyed other games that have adopted this style of fighting genre such as D.O.N. Battle Stadium, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, and Digimon Rumble Arena 2.

Watch the other videos about it. It is trying to be Melee crossed with a bullet hell shmup which is certainly worth trying as both are good.

Looks clunky and character animations seem very stiff. I will be interested to see what the Final Product looks like next year.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I love how this game is early in development and not meant to release until the fall or next year, yet most of the people on this website are acting like it's coming out tomorrow in it's current state.

CaviarMeths

Looks like it's 100% funded now too, and still 28 days to go. Now to hit those stretch goals, because it looks like it doesn't quite become a "complete" game until around $40k.

Well, the developer has gotten himself in one heck of a mess.
He's probably better off dropping the game since the Touhou characters was its only real appeal.
