Microsoft hasn't really ever been that picky about letting Nintendo have a game or 2 from their own studios. There's been Banjo games on Nintendo handhelds, after Microsoft bought Rare, and there was a Age of Empires game on DS. That was when portable gaming was mostly Nintendo; mobile has become more of a presence since then. So, Microsoft probably figures that it's not that big of a deal if the game was already in there, anyway. They would just cause Nintendo to have to work more, and Nintendo would probably pay just as much to replace the Jetpack game as they would to just pay for it to stay in, unchanged.

I wish Nintendo could pay a fee to Microsoft or something to put up Rare games on the virtual console, for just a limited time at least. Banjo, Conker, Diddy Kong Racing, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Battletoads - c'mon Rare!

They could. If Microsoft is actually willing to put Banjo & Kazoie in Smash Bros, then I could just as easily see them puting VC games on Wii U. Xbox One would probably have them by that point, and new games to boot, so Wii U still wouldn't be getting the newer games and the VC games would be advertising. Banjo being in Smash Bros. would advertise a new Banjo. and Battletoads on NES or whatever would advertise the new game that would only be on Xbox One. This is just rambling...

So as someone who loves Banjo Kazooie, is this game worth getting on VC?

I remember getting it for Christmas back in 1999 or whatever and playing it a ton, and I think I remember liking it, but I literally have not played it since 2000 or so. Recently I have seen a lot of people crapping on the game saying that it ruined the 'collect-a-thon' genre.

Was this game really that bad? I'm leaning towards getting it because there are not many games like it on the Wii U, but I remember very little about it.

Well, I haven't played it in a couple of years, but I loved it. But yeah, it is a bit too crazy with being a collectathon.

There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

I doubt they'll arrive to VC but if you have a 360 check them out in XBLA, Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie HD adaptations look absolutely fantastic in my 50' HDTV, truly gorgeous.

Would I purchase them again if they ever get realease in Wii U Virtual Console? of course, I'll love those games.

^ I was talking about DK64 haha

I had both the remasters for Banjo on my 360 though and they are amazing.

Is Donkey Kong 64 an over-all recommended game? Or do you need to be a fan of collectathon games? I enjoy collectathon but if DK64 requires that then I doubt I would feel the drive to play it much. I have heard mixed things about it in the past but want to heard more recent impressions.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

It is a collectathon so your enjoyment of the game depends entirely on whether that appeals to you or not. You don't have to be a fan, just tolerate it. It is an enjoyable game regardless. But many people feel burned out by the later stages. I was back in the day. I'm up to the fourth world on the VC version and I'm still enjoying it so far. I pretty much played 12 hours over easter weekend because I wanted to get to Jetpac. I had contemplated downloading Jetpac Refuelled on XBOX 360 but I kept putting it off, now I don't need to download it separately since I have it on Wii U now.

There are a handful of puzzles and exploration in DK64. A lot of the game is collectathon, but the levels are big enough to possibly not know where you are going. There are time trial type challenges, bosses, and other stuff. It really isn't completely a collectathon is what I'm saying.

@MasterBlaster
The first Banjo Kazooie was almost completely collectathon, but Banjo Tooie was more complicated by a long shot, like figuring out how to traverse levels. There is exploration in the games, especially if you have absolutely never played them before, but I guess that would require some patience. Kind of like if you get to one area where you have to do something just right, otherwise you fail and try again. The games were like that, from what I recall.

I wish there was a way to access the arcade game, without playing Donkey Kong 64 itself in order to gain access. I'd pay $10 if there was open menu access to the arcade recreation, but playing through this game once on the real deal was enough for me with DK64.

It is when people say things like that is what makes me not want to get the game. From the sounds of it people that like to have to do everything in a game can find enjoyment out of DK64 but others find it tedious.

I would say DK64 is a game worth getting if you like the Banjo Kazooie games, Gex, Croc, or really any other 3D platformer from 5th generation.

I'm not sure if I'll beat it, but I want to buy it simply because it'll be the first official release of the game in a long time. Whenever I tried to play on an emulator, it was way too glitchy. So it'll be nice to have a version thats playable.

The platforming is overall not as tight as in the Banjo games. There's an emphasis on playing minigames to earn certain Golden Bananas, a few of which are pretty frustrating. The game is a lot like Banjo-Kazooie, but longer (partially due to the time spent returning to Tag Barrels to switch characters), glitchier/less polished, and a bit simpler.

Ya, I would say Banjo-Tooie is a bit better than DK 64, but DK64 is a bit better than Banjo-Kazooie, in terms of gameplay, but not creativity wise. Then, throw all those other platforming games like Glover, Bomberman 64, or Rayman 2 into the mix, and those were the awesome N64 games, IMO. I was 7 years old, so I wasn't really playing Turok or Doom 64.

That's why I wish I would have had PS1, too, because of the library was a lot bigger, but the graphics were also a great deal worse and that was what mainly put me off.

I love Banjo Kazooie and I think is the second best after Mario 64 and I also love the Donkey Kong Country trilogy on SNES but I don't like DK64 in fact I hate that game.

I would say (personal opinion only) that's a blasphemy, DK64 is the worst 3D platformer rare ever made while Banjo Kazooie is a masterpiece second only to Mario 64

I doubt he'd find many people that would agree with him and put Banjo Kazooie down at the bottom of the list where Rare's N64 platformers are concerned.

Ya, well that's what opinions are for. Banjo-Kazooie was easier than DK64, IMO, and that's the main reason why I don't like it as much. I still like Banjo-Tooie more than either, because of the difficulty, and I like the Banjo-Kazooie universe more than DKs. I still like all the games, anyway. I even liked Glover and Bomberman Hero, and Glover was especially laughing stock, from what I recall.

I'm going to give it a pass since I'm definitely not a fan of early 3D platforming games and it sounds like accessing the content of interest is more convoluted than I'd like.

Not sure why people are surprised about Jetpack - Microsoft is a corporation, no doubt Nintendo just had to be willing to do a deal and pay them to license whatever they have trademarks on - it's not like putting Halo out on the Wii U!

Has anyone played the multiplayer game on VC?
