Any reason a white deluxe set wasn't available from the start? I am getting my friend a Wii U for Christmas but I refuse to buy one until they release a white deluxe set. Why did they have the two sets of colors two sets instead of making both colors for both sets?
Because too many options from the start actually hurts the manufacturer more. You can probably expect special bundles later this year (like maybe a Zelda themed Wii U)

I don't think having both colors for each set would really impact sales much, if at all. What's wrong with having black and white deluxe sets, and black and white basic sets? I mean..the 3DS has many colors available. They even have pink and blue Wii remotes. I don't know about others, but I like having options, especially when it comes to the color of a product.
It would be pretty cool if Nintendo finally did this, actually
Yeah, it strikes me odd they only had one color per model. Though, personally, I liked the black. Black 3DS, black Vita, black Wii U, and soon a black PS4. Just goes together nicely.

Same with me. I try to get black whenever possible. My Wii sticks out like a sore thumb because it's the only white electronic I have in my living room!
I just get black always. I wanted a black Wii, but white was all that was out. The only color consoles I've ever had are the GameBoy systems, GCN, 3DS, and Xbox 360.
