What would you deem a safe play session on the Wii U? Personally I go with a 4 hour session a time. Is this too much or is the Wii U built for heavier sessions?

Cool. I just got paranoid when consoles started using fans as before I have burnt out a couple consoles in the past due to over playing (Non Nintendo) I may add.

Safe for what? You or the console? In terms of physical health, the evidence on whether playing games or watching TV for extended periods is unhealthy is all over the place and the impression that it's a genuine health risk has largely been maintained by hippie scare mongers, the same people who managed to convince everyone that cellphones caused cancer despite the fact the evidence was almost non-existent.
The main health risk from gaming too much or watching too much TV is probably from getting overweight due to lack of exercise.
