Were you signed in to your Youtube account? I can use my 3DS XL to browse on Xbox One while videos are playing, but I think I have to be logged in, IIRC. Wii U already has the second screen, so it's kind of pointless to add another one, IMO; in this case, but it's whatever.

You can browse Youtube, manage your account, etc. while a video is playing on the bigger screen. All you do is log into your account on multiple devices, then you can tell the bigger screen to play whatever you select on your mobile device. It's basically what the Wii U does with the GamePad, so that's why I was saying it's not really all that useful for Wii U, but is for consoles like Xbox One, PS4, smart TVs, or a PC.
