@Blast Not for that I once thaught the same way of it, and to be honest, it spoiled some of the fun i had with japanese games. The west is so fixated on the fact that only adults can be competent persons, that when we see a child saving the day, it just feels odd. But the physique of these characters clearly show, that these are defenitly NOT 14 year old childs anymore. And look at how japanese parents shelter their children. There is no way that they would leave their kids go on a world trip with 14 years. And thats the interesting contrast. I guess most people in eastern cultures just dream about being more independent at a young age hat such a thing snuck into their entertainement media. Now they could at least pretend to be
And now look at the west. We have a much different view on our jobs as adults and such. Most people hate going to work everyday and just feel insignificant in a grander scale. And i guess thats where our "alter ego superhero" fantasys come from. We want to feel, that even as responsible adults with normal daily live, we can also be something significant to others.
Remember, i could be completely wrong on this since im not a cultural expert and these are just theses, but thats what i gathered over the time
Another example: You know Kenshiro from "Fist of the North Star" ? Also a uspreme master of an ancient martial art and hes supposed to be around 25 years old. This is pretty much the absolute maximum age such a character can be given. 5 Years more and he would be a grey heared, bearded old man
Moral of the day: Just enjoy the character, his / her traits, the art style and dont give a flying zubat about any details like their blood type and age

@maximo_jd Not quite. Samus was voiced by Jessica Martin while Mizuki McCloud was voiced by Ali Hillis, at least IMDB says so
But the storys are basicly the same. Thats what happens if you give a character that didnt have any identifieable human traits a truckload of emotions, but dont change the story around it.
Samus was always depicted as a fearless bounty huntress and acording to canon, she faced much much more dangerous and frightful threads in her past (not to speak of her regular encounters with Ridley before, she knows this guy in and out by now)
Sure, it was her first mission in which she wasnt alone as she normaly operates, but she was depicted as an absolute professional. If she really did her job as well as we are told, she would have kept a cool head especially in a situation like that instead of having a near mental breakdown.
The same goes for Ryu. The things he faced to far (and teh games dont even cover the entire canon story) were much much worse than the situation he faced in NG3. Especially as a MASTER ninja, he would stay level headed and followed the code by which he lived years upon years prior.

Team Ninja tends to be overly dramatic when it comes to story telling. Dont get me wrong, their storys arent even half bad, the problem is, that their storys arent catared towards the well established characters they are using for them. I would love to see a fresh IP done by them in such a style. If the story still falls flat on its face, we know for a fact that they fail at writing one, but maybe its just our expectation of the well known character that gets in the way of enjoying the overall story.
