EDIT: I'm talking specifically about the hardware, BTW. This gen looks to be GCN vs. Xbox, all over again, except PS' position has been flipped, specs wise.
I think people are ignoring some of the non-GPU hardware specs of this thing. It has 32GB of flash floating inside of it, it's working on Blu-Rays it allows you to expand your storage using non-proprietary USB mass storage. Then software wise it has a full social media service, it has a vibrant indie community, it allows devs to patch their games easily or push sales whenever they want. All of that and some whole number multiple more powerful than the last-gen powerhouses and in a box the size of the Wii. Oh, and they throw a standard def screen on the controller that gets its stuff beamed wirelessly over 5Ghz WiFi.
This thing couldn't have existed at the start of last gen. Period. It maybe could have existed four years ago but you would have had it in a larger box and it would have cost four times as much. The same could be said of the XBOne and PS4 when you think of it. So to say it's not of this gen is ignoring reality.
