So the Wii U has been out for over a year. The games released a year ago probably don't make to much money for companies now. What if there was a deal where if you bought a full price ($60) game digitally within its launch week you could get any retail game at least a year old for 50% off digitally at the time of purchasing said new game? This could help boost their digital store, help boost sales of new games, help people build a collection of games fast, help people see the Wii U as a good investment. Even if Nintendo just did it with Nintendo games I think it could help them stand out. Other companies could join in the promotion but allowing their game to be 50% off in a year to people who buy a new game... what do people think of this? Would it be too costly for Nintendo to try to attempt this? Would Nintendo practically giving games away make them look weak? How would customers react? I know I would love this idea. What do you people think?

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

They're already giving 10% back through the Delxe Digital Promo. That's usually enough to get a small indie game for fairly cheap, or possibly free.

I bought Toki Tori and EDGE with $5 promo funds. I think that's good enough,.. Prices will eventually drop on those games anyway, so it makes more sense to just do that instead of offering a buy one get one for half, unless stated otherwise for specific titles.

i.e. Buy Final Fight, get any Street Fighter 2 for half.

They can do stuff like that without doing it through the entire eShop.

EDIT: Also, I'm pretty sure anyone would like this, as a consumer, but that's not how things work, most of the time.

Well games that actually is selling poorly could bet a little boost with a big cut off. And also could help in the order to sale consoles.

They did something similar to this with the 3ds a while back. If you bought two games and registered them to club Nintendo you could get a download code for a third game for free.Though I don't remember if you also had to register a 3ds with it.

Considering PS Plus does drastically more insane sales, it doesn't sound crazy. I don't know how many people would actually be willing to download Wii U games, though, considering you'd basically need an additional hard drive to take advantage of it.

@Unca_Lz It's not as much about price as it is about going out and getting a hard drive, finding out which one is best, seeing if it's compatible, finding the right cables to get it into, etc.

It's not like buying an SD card where you know it'll work, regardless of the quality of the card. That's what's kept me from getting an external hard drive. That, and the lack of a proper account system or the lack of games that I want to play that are only digital.

I think it's worth noting that 3rd party games generally devalue a lot over the course of a year. I don't know how many 3rd party games would want to take advantage of this when their MSRBs are already less than half of what they were at launch. The only games that you'd get good deals on are Nintendo games, which frankly don't need sales to keep interest up; that's why they have such long legs in the first place.

I'm just trying to justify Nintendo's complete lack of action as of late. Hopefully it's because they're thinking instead of them just not caring.

The whole 3rd party thing actually helps my argument for this Crazy Marketing Idea. 3rd Party games normally lose value much quicker and this could be used to make digital more profitable as digital 3rd Party games don't go down in price often, this way when the game is older they can get people excited about their newer ones. But overall this was just a crazy idea I had and wanted to know people's opinion on it

AFAIK, if it's from a known brand it will work.

Are you kidding? Finding an ext. HDD for Wii U is almost the exact same as buying an SD card. If you don't have an SD card of at least class 6, your s*** isn't going to be able to use it, depending on the said device. Most HD camcorders require class 6 or higher, and the transfer/read rate can vary your results, even with the class.

5400RPM isn't that hard to understand, and every A/C powered drive is good to go out of the box. The only thing most people have to worry about, is how many GB they want.

This is beside that anyone interested in expanding their memory with an ext. HDD would most likely research what they're buying. Only a fool goes and buys stuff that they haven't a clue about, and there's still a high chance that anyone buying an HDD wouldn't have any trouble hooking it up and using it without any research, either.

If people want digital content and an ext. HDD, they'll figure it out. Perhaps a few invalid complaints will happen, but things tend to work out.

Same thing goes for the Wii U's stock battery. Complaining about 3-5 hours of ssid battery life just means you didn't know what you were buying, before you bought it.

@SCAR392 You just proved my point. Most people are probably going to value their time more than at max $30 saved. Researching would take too long considering how little you're saving.

I'm someone who regularly visits this site and regularly plays video games, and I didn't know which types of hard drives would work on Wii U. How likely is it that a casual user would? And how likely is it that they would care to research it?

That's my point, though. It doesn't that take that much time OR thought to figure it out. Then I was countering your "SD cards are convenient" bit, by saying that they vary about as much.

You can't say that finding an ext. HDD is hard, if it all it takes is a quick Google search. That's why half of the threads made are redundant and don't contribute anything, because Google is right there.
