Topic: Buy Wii U Preorder

I was unsuccessful at getting in on the Walmart layaway preorder, and I am thinking of buying a preordered system from ebay where the seller will ship the system to you after release. I would of course only buy a system from a reliable seller with 100% positive feedback. Anyone ever bought a preorder console on ebay before?

I wouldn't. I'd rather wait or just go out on launch day to loads of stores and see if they have any WiiU's in store that haven't been picked-up or are available.

It is expensive, but I don't see myself being able to get one on launch by standing in line. I didn't preorder the Wii in 2006 and I was able to stand in line and get the Wii on launch day, because I was one of the first 10 to be in line at my local retailer, but I think the Wii U launch will be more competitive, and also I usually have to work on weekends so it would be hard to do. I remember when the Wii came out my friend didn't get one at launch, and he wasn't able to get one until like February, so I don't want to get stuck in that situation.

If you're feeling froggy, sure. If you're smart, no; just wait it out for someone reliable (I.E. retailer) to have one. That would give ME the most peace of mind, and that much money is too much to take a chance with.

getting one on ebay even from a person who has 100% feedback... will lily end up on you paying alot more than the console is actually worth, just wait it out, its not going to be the end of the world if you dont get one on launch day... and ebay does have issues with last minute snipers..
ive seen items jump in price because people were bid snipping near the end of the auction

It's about $80 more buying the 8GB model from someone on ebay compared to buying one in store (and paying store tax), and considering you might not otherwise be able to find one until January/February without being one of the first people in line at release it's not that bad.

If you MUST have it as soon as possible, THAT badly, it's your call. But you're already paying $30 more than the premium, for the basic.

ebay has a issue of bid sniping,, it happens in the last minutes of a auction... the price can easily jump up to being over $1000, right now it may be sittingh at $80 more right now.. but can you honestly say that when it comes closer to the end of the auction, now dont get me wrong, i to probably pay a little more for something to get it, but with how ebay works you may end up paying alot more for it than where it is now

I'm talking about ebay "buy it now" listings. You can get the 8GB white for $410 with free shipping, so basically $400 with $10 shipping is what it boils down to. Also, the auctions themselves were going for like 600-800 when people first started selling preorders, but it has gone down drastically since then. If I buy one I'll either buy the white for $410 shipped or the black for around $440-450 shipped.

Doesn't eBay have sales tax still? I was pretty sure it did...

Either way, I wouldn't buy one off of eBay but it's your call. For one, if it has any issues right out of the box (happens even with new items), you can't easily return or exchange it. They will fight you on it. Trust me, I had to do that when I bought a 360 new and it didn't work. Systems in the first batch have the highest chance of having problems as is, so that possibility should always be considered. And sure, it will be under warranty but is it really worth the hassle?

This is exactly why I preordered the moment the date and price were announced. After the Wii, I wasn't taking chances, and if people end up having to pay extra or wait to get one, that's their own fault for not securing a preorder ealier. Still, I honestly think you should wait. Nintendo has promised to have a steady stream of them coming to stores and they've not done nearly as much advertising as they did with the Wii. The casual audience hardly realizes the Wii U exists, chances are you could easily get one before Christmas without eBay. Of course, I can't promise that, but you may end up paying $80+ extra for nothing. Still, it's your money dude.

No sales tax on ebay unless you live in the state the item is being sold from. And there is always ebay/Paypal protection if there was anything wrong with the item upon arrival and warranty after that. Though I would much rather buy the console from a regular retailer, I also do not want to wait months to be able to purchase a console. I also know the longer I wait the higher the price they will be on ebay to buy a preordered system.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had forgotten to actually call them and see, because I had read that Target was all sold out, but apparently my closest Target has 3 pre order cards left.

I was able to secure the last 3. I got 1 of the Deluxe system and 2 of the basic. I am going to sell the 2 basic set cards to help fund my Deluxe.
