Two new games. Mario Kart 64 re-enters at 16 and Super Smash Bros. re-enters at 18. This spells the end for The Legend of Zelda (16 last week) and Double Dragon (19 last week).

Donkey Kong Country managed to enter the magical top 3 which is normally only for Mario games. The original Donkey Kong is doing good too and climbs two spots into the top 5. Biggest climber however is Yoshi's Story with three spots from 20 to 17. Biggest dropper is Super Mario Bros. 2 with three spots from 3 to 6.

Now there is movement here!! Mario Party 2 arrives to the Mexican chart IN 3RD POSITION!!! Obviously, this is the biggest climber. In the bottom of the list, we have two long-time-no-seen games: Metal Slug 2 and Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. So, three games are out: Punch Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream (14th last week and the biggest dropper now), The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (18th) and Yoshi's Story (19th).

I need to say this: so far, Super Mario Bros. had NEVER leave the 2nd position in this year. The last time was last year, when Super Smash Bros. came out... Anyway.

Last American Top 20 of 2010 (unless someone else decides to post one on New Year's Eve for some reason). Mario Party 2's rise continues, with it jumping 5 spots, into the top 3! You'll see a whole lot of minuses, caused by Mario Party 2 and the week's other three big winners, Mario Kart 64 (+4 to 8), Super Smash Bros. (+3 to 14) and Paper Mario (+4 to 16). Biggest loser of the week, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (-3 to 18), which is apparently no longer benefiting from all the music and sound effects from the game contained in "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" (if it ever did).

Two new games. Mario Party 2 came out last week and shot straight to the number two position. We also see the return of The Legend of Zelda. This comes at the expense of Yoshi's Story (17 last week) and Faxanadu (20 last week).

First of many American Top 20s for 2011! Picked up where I guess most every list has since November 5, 2007, when Super Mario Bros. 3 was released on VC: With it in the number one spot. No real movement this week. Mario Kart 64 (week's big winner, at number 7) and The Legend of Zelda each gained a spot, at the expense of Super Mario 64. Kirby's Adventure and Paper Mario trade spots. New to the Top 20, the NES version of Tecmo Bowl. Meaning one game is gone, and it's that of poor Diddy Kong (and tag team partner Dixie). Our favorite peanut-shooting Kong's (and only, though not till later in the series in DK 64 when he gains the peanut gun) game, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, drops out of the Top 20 this week.

A day later with the rankings than usual. Quite a bit of movement this week, and one newcomer. After roaring into the Top 20, Mario Party 2 is now starting to fall a little, down one spot to fourth, with Super Mario World jumping to third. While there are NES versions of two arcade classics (Pac-Man, Galaga) in the Top 20, there are still no VCA entries, even with four recent Capcom releases. You have to think that will change if Nintendo ever introduces one of it's own arcade games to the VCA. Speaking of Puck-Man, it was one of the big gainers of the week, gaining two spots, as did Kirby's Adventure (numbers 8 and 14 respectively). The big winner of the week, however, is unquestionably Sonic The Hedgehog, racing into the Top 20 in true Sonic style at 16, making it the only Sega or Genesis game to be ranked.. Mario took a bit of a hit this week, with Mario Kart 64 dropping the most spots from a week ago, down 3 to number 10. And Mario's first Paper adventure, Paper Mario, drops out this week, making it the big loser of the week.

Even after almost a week and a half since posting the last list, there is LITTLE movement on this Top 20. No change whatsoever until number 8, where games in the next few spots pretty much switch places. With the exception of the big loser of the week, Mario Kart 64, dropping multiple spots (2 this week, 3 last) for a second straight week. With every other game only gaining one spot, I guess you have to make the highest ranked the winner of the week, and that is Super Mario 64 at number 8. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is back in the Top 10 at number 10.

Speaking of which, the attention on the 3DS last week begs the question: When the 3DS version of Ocarina is released, how will it affect the N64 original's ranking in the Top 20? Will it bring a sea of new support to the VC version, from newcomers wanting to discover the game's origins and veterans reliving the original again, and make it a viable threat to the mighty champion Super Mario Bros. 3 for it's VC Championship? Or will the prettier visuals, bells and whistles of the 3DS version make fans and would-be fans alike forget of the N64 classic's very existence, banishing it from the Top 20 forever? It'll be interesting to see.
