I'm very interested in this one. Anyone played it before?

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

I heard good things about this game and i downloaded it yesterday. The game is very polish and excellent animated.

There are 2 modes for each character, one for speed and one for attack and each one has many differences.
Also there is a weak attack, force attack, kick and a counter button, this button make better the battles.

I´m glad with this VC game, i´m practicing the moves. It has arcade mode, survival, a compact arcade mode and practice mode and in the options you can quit all energy/power bars visuals to fight.

It is a 9/10. You won´t be dissapointed.

My Impressions:

  • The controls are tight
  • the animation is fluid
  • the combat is deep yet not overly complicated
  • the challenge is just right
  • the characters are all interesting and fun to use
  • the backrounds are nice and have little touches here and there
  • the music is fantastic
  • there are more modes and options than you usually see for a Neo Geo game
  • You can even save what stage you're on in the story mode and continue where you left off
  • Why are you not playing this game right now?

Really, this game is amazing, if you have any interest in Fighting games, you really have to try it. It's only problem is that they forgot to translate the opening of the game so you can't really tell what's going on. Also, super attacks require two buttons. That took me a while to figure out. Also, picking Power over Speed is kinda worthless, but maybe I'm just not good enough at the game, yet. I wish Corbie was here, he could tell you more about the deeper mechanics.

You are right. The intro is in japanese.

In options you have languages but the spanish has a bad traslation (i´m from méxico and it is evident they confuse spanish with portuguese many times).

English is pretty bad, too. Most of the sentences are completely nonsensicle.

Thats typical SNK though.

Hmmm....

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

If you're into SNK fighting games or at the very least samurais then The Last Blade is a good choice. It's a shame that The Last Blade 2 isn't on the VC.

I played a bit more and it is interesting.

In Speed mode you can do a lot of quick button chained combos and it does a custom combo like SF Alpha 2 with red energy blinking.

In Strenght mode you can do damage when the opponen has defense and you can do a second super attack with red energy blinking.

Some characters changes the gameplay with these modes.

I know your comment is old & I should probably post this somewhere else but apparently The Last Blade 2 is in the Japanese wii vc August lineup. Hope It comes out west to PAL & North American regions.

Power vs Speed gives characters different abilities it DOES matter (Read Faq)

Question, im playing SNK fighters on my GC controller... how the CC are working for you???
I ask because the wiimote cross pad is useless... does the cross pad on the CC will be the same?? (games doesn't recognize the diagonal input very well)

The D-Pad on the CC is great, much better than the Wiimote one. It's not ideal - I recall having occassional trouble doing half-cicles and back(hold)-forward, but that's not uncommon on any D-pad, so I guess it's acceptable.
