Topic: Do you think N64 VC releases will ever become more frequent?

I'm pretty confused as to why we are lucky to get even three games a year added for it. Third party companies seem to want nothing of theirs available on the shop. It makes me sad to think the N64 gets no love on VC. It really was a great system if you give it a chance. I still think it had better games than PS1. True there were less of them but they did make some pretty impressive stuff.

I think we will not get more N64 games a year like we are now. Was our only N64 game this year The legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask? Thats only 1 for this year.

I wish. NA hasn't seen a game since May!

I don't think so. Since our only N64 game released this year was released in May, I'm starting to woner if we'll ever see another game, but that's no skin off my nose. Just give us Smash bros. (I don't care about it, but practically everyone else does), Excitebike 64, and Mischief Makers and I'll be happy.

It makes sense why we've always had so little N64 games. Most of the system's best games have been released already, and many of them will never happen to the licensing issues, ect.

No, I don't think they'll ever become more frequent. It's rather simple why. N64 only ever had 387 games, which SEEMS like a fair amount. However...
1. How many games are licensed and therefore impossible to release? You can chop of things like Banjo, James Bond, etc.
2. How many games are owned by dead companies or those unwilling to release them?
3. (Speaking of Europe and North America only) How many are Japanese and text heavy? Sure, Sin and Punishment came but the only thing really translated was the menus. Voices were already English to begin with.
4. How many would require peripherals to function? Hey You, Pikachu! for example.
5. How many would require alterations because of licensing? Diddy Kong racing for example, features Banjo and Conker I believe, they'd need to be removed and that would be a large hassle.
6. Emulation difficulties, applies mostly to games that needed extra RAM.
7. Unseen factors which, quite frankly I am too lazy and can't be bothered to list.

When all is said and done, you're left with mostly Nintendo-owned games. Now consider that in addition to all that, Nintendo needs to space out the releases as part of their business strategy. Japan already has 16 games, America has 16, and Europe has 17. Wii has only been out for nearly three years and that's cutting things close already.

Scratch off number six, Majora's Mask proved to us that games with the expansion pack can be emulated on the VC.

Yes, it is possible to emulate Majora's Mask, but it sure isn't EASY to emulate Majora's Mask given the hardware of the Wii (for example, the iPod Touch 3G outperforms the Wii in many categories). It's not like because they emulated MM they can just try another game and be done emulating it in the same day, it's quite more complex than that. Sure it wouldn't take a long time, but they need to iron out glitches (emulation glitches especially), do lots of testing, etc. A lot more goes into testing an N64 game than any other system currently available on Virtual Console. But yes, your point is valid, I'm just saying that it's responsible for slowing things down when I'm sure Nintendo has employees in that department working on other games.

Yeah I guess you're right. I didn't think about all the factors. That's probably why the Super FX games still ain't availible yet.

No. Only releases by Nintendo have been releasing for the system so far and the fact is there is a lot of vc systems on it right now.

The only N64 games I could see have a chance to to be released going the vc's remaining life is the the following outside of Super Smash Bros.:
Excitebike 64
Dr. Mario 64
Mario Party 1-3
Mario Tennis 64
Mischief Makers
Star Wars Episode 1: Battle for Naboo
Star Wars Episode 1: Racer
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire

Unfourtunently no. Sure we'll see more Nintendo 64 games, but unless Nintendo starts all over next generation, it will only be one or two N64 games a year, unless of course we FINALLY get 3rd party supports.

No
1. The complexity makes it hard to emulate and iron out
2. Most of the games were third party
3. All the major Nintendo titles are already out

With LucasArts having their published games coming on the Virtual Console, I'm sure we could see the Episode I: Pod Racer & Star Wars Shadows of the Empire as a couple of suggested games from the N64 to be on the VC.

Don't forget Rogue Squadron & that Naboo flight game. Oh man, please make Rogue Squadron happen, LucasArts.
