I've been having an absolute blast with mine, but I've noticed something (and I can only assume that I'm not the only one who has noticed):

Donkey Kong Country!

The game is soooo blocky! I'm not seeing this problem with any of the other games, but DKC is a total mess of pixels! As a point of reference, I went back to my 3DS VC copy and it looked spot on. I played with the different displays, and I'm not seeing any real difference. Am I missing something?

Well look at that, I actually did get it today.

It's gonna stay closed for a while though... Considering I don't have a TV for it.

Bloop.

Went to Walmart today to get guinea pig food and decided to see if they had any SNES Minis and no big surprise they didn't. Once again Nintendo lied.

@Meowpheel Aww, that's too bad. Mine arrived today too and I love it.

I've tried a bit of Yoshi's Story on an emulator on my PC, but it feels so much better on the mini.

Who can tell me what the menu music is?

You guys had me at blood and semen.

@Tasuki Given Nintendo said it would be restocked frequently into 2018, it launched 4 days ago, and that time period has yet to elapse, unless you have a TARDIS, I don't see how they lied.

They said, specifically for launch, there would be more stock than the NES Classic had PERIOD. Judging by numbers we got from stores, that's been the case, as well as all the cases of people walking away surprisingly happy.

So, they didn't lie about that, and you can't say they lied about restocks, as the period given has to pass before judgement on those remarks can be made.

On that note, want some salt with that meal? I know its fun to complain but...cmon. Before calling their comments lies, at least let what they said happen first!!

@BLP_Software Several media outlets as well as Nintendo stated that stores on launch day will have enough on hand that even if you didn't preorder you can go into the store and get one. Did that on launch day at 3 stores and none of them had it. Doesn't sound like they there truthful there.

@Tasuki Okay so, because you, one individual, and a few others, weren't able to, means they lied?

Man, look, I know you love negativity, but cmon. Most people got one.

Their statement also said, if you cant get one, don't pay scalpers, because restocks will be frequent into 2018.

So, if youre going to say they lied, which you are so lovingly obsessed with, saying they lied about the entirety of their statement, is false.

Patience is your best friend. I know you have absolutely none, trust me, ive seen it myself, but it will pay off.

Seriously, you've got issues with people lying and not getting your way and blowing up at the first thing.

Don't give up on the first go or you wont get anywhere, trust me.

@DarthNocturnal Further to this, you know how store allocation works right?

The business as a whole orders as many as they see fit for the company as a whole. Its the dished out regionally, and the regional distribution works based on store size, population, expected sales per store, so on, so forth. The businesses themselves determine how much goes where.

I opened mine to see if it fit in the NES mini carrying case I have (to buy a second one if it did, it didn't) and noticed something odd.

Is it just mine, or is the controller port door like, really hard to put back in place? I feel like it's wrong.

@DarthNocturnal Yeah the amount of healing items you can carry is really annoying in Mana one of its flaws. Though if you keep Undine at its current max level on the girl, cure water helps alleviate that alot. But that's another flaw I have with Mana, grinding to level up your magic.

I was just able to pick one up! I got a call from the store that people cancelled their order, so I got lucky The shopkeeper told me he got in 120 Mini's on day one. Also, I still can't wrap my head around how tiny it is! So cute <3

What time did you head out to look? I went to my local target 10 minutes before it opened and got one no problem

.........Yeah I'm with Tasuki on this one. Nintendo SAYS they would fix the issue, but really they won't. Everything is sold-out here as well...

I'm bouncing back and forth between Final Fantasy III (it feels so good playing this with a SNES controller again! One of the few games that I've beaten multiple times, that still feels like magic to me) and Yoshi's Island (I'm on a mission to 100% each level)!

Whatever their strategy is with these classic minis, I'm not convinced Nintendo are really going to produce many more any time soon. They could easily have put more mini NES out by now, but they haven't.

@DarthNocturnal Yep, very plausible. Assuming they do release more, I wonder if they'll change the rrp. Guess it would be bad PR to raise it but.... supply and demand say "Hiya".

@gcunit They will be re-releasing the NES next summer, there will be more SNES's and there definitely were many more at launch than with the NES, I think a lot more people will get their hands on one

NINTENDO CLASSIC MINI SNES REVIEW

DISPLAY
My impressions about the CRT filter are mixed, it causes blurriness and some flickering on landscapes (Donkey Kong Country, Yoshi's Island...). I recommend using 4:3 display (default mode) on all games because the perfect pixel mode makes round object oval. When you choose 4:3 display mode the image might be too sharp for your eyes but you can always fiddle with your TV settings. Look for a "picture/sharpness" menu on your TV (or audio/video receiver) and choose the lowest level available. This way the image will look crisp but a lot softer and it looks great even on big HD/UHD TVs because it doesn't create flickering or blurriness and the pixilation is softened so you don't perceive the edges of the original pixels so much.

APPEARANCE
The SNES Classic itself is awesome value. The device itself looks very nice just like the original SNES but much smaller. The power and reset buttons react in a similar way. Even the cartridge lid seems to be real. The only "soldered" part is the eject button which breaks the physical perfection. It's a beautiful console. I love the fact that every time that you turn on the unit (except the first time) you go directly to the games menu so you don't have to deal with any annoying screens. Joy.

GAMES
21 games for the RRP plus the hardware, cables and two controllers is a very sweet deal but unfortunately some of the best SNES games are not included e.g., Donkey Kong Country 2 and Chrono Trigger.

EMULATION
The sound of the original SNES is amazing, the SNES Classic does a great job with the sound in all the games I've tried. If you notice missing notes you have to remember that that occurred on the original hardware as well because of the limited sound channels e.g., fluttering in Yoshi's Island causes some notes to disappear, sometimes.

There are very minor visual glitches in Yoshi's Island like the landscape disappearing for one frame when touching a Fuzzy but the rest of the visual features are displayed perfectly. This includes: the high-Yoshi effect when touching Fuzzies, the rainbow waterfall in a boss battle, the enlargement and rotation of sprites and the 3D platforms. There is another minor glitch on the Yoshi and egg sprites that occurs under certain circumstances like transforming into a helicopter and touching the mud or running over certain platforms (like the jagged platforms).

I confirm that the colour reproduction is fine on my TV and I haven't noticed any slowdowns yet playing Yoshi's Island (a very demanding Super FX2 game). The emulation is much better than any Virtual Console that you have tried before and you just need to press a button to access your retro collection.

CHARGER
You need a USB charger. I wanted to confirm that any 5V 1A charger is fine.

CONCLUSION
An essential purchase for anyone that has ever enjoyed SNES games. If you haven't played SNES games yet, perhaps you should start now. The Classic Mini SNES is much better than I expected, honestly.

Well, by using the power of some random site, I beat the scalpers. (the same way I grabbed a Switch)
It became buy-able for like a minute, so I managed to nab it.
