Ys: Vanished Omens is basically Ys Part 1 of the TG16 release, although the TG16 Part I has some additional cut scenes and story parts here and there. After you've completed Ys I, you get to go on and play Part 2 on the TG16 release.

Very awesome game in my opinion, but maybe not for everyone.

A: Two, one to hold the light bulb, the other to rotate the universe.

The PC-Engine versions have the voice acting (which sound good). Not so sure about the other versions of Ys.
Also, I agree, Ys Book I & II is great.

To each their own

I don't agree, aside from the (great, yet terribly out of place) music, I didn't like it.

Being lost for hours is no fun

well, I already know that i like the game as I own 'the vanished omens' for the SMS (I also own Napishtum for PS2). Despite the different battle style the game, i do appreciate being lost for hours as a good challenge never hurts.

My question was whether the TG-16 version was the same as the SMS version. Based on the original response, the TG-16 version is very similar, plus apparently a whole bunch more. Thanks for the responses.
