Topic: PS4 and PS Vita comparison?

I don't know if this is even possible, but can you compare these two consoles? I'm unable to get a PS4, so I might get a PSVita instead. Are the games similar on it as they are on PS4? Can I get Japanese games? Can someone explain to me what a PSTV is, and what I need to get it working?
Thanks guys! I haven't owned a Sony product since PS2, so I'm kind of late on a ton of things. I missed out on PS3 and Xbox 360 because I was overseas.

I love my Vita, but I would really advise against buying it if you're looking for a console experience in handheld form. That's a shortcut to disappointment. The Vita is a completely separate entity. There are a few console-like games on Vita, but what it excels at are mid and small budget Japanese games. VNs, puzzle games, and JRPGs, mostly.

The PSTV is a Vita that doesn't have its own screen. You have to hook it up to your TV, like you would a console, and use a PS3 or PS4 controller with it. Due to this, some games are incompatible, namely those that require the touchpads for input (admittedly not many).

I prefer handheld gaming, when I bought MH3U on both my WiiU and 3DS, I played the 3DS version much much more. It's not mostly looking for a console experience in handheld form, but it's just to fill the void of not being able to get a PS4 at the moment. I'd love to be able to play JRPGs and MH, and a few games like Sword Art Online and Date-A-Live.

I think I'll get one with my next paycheck, I really wanted a Sony product and Vita seems it'll fill the void. Thanks, Caviar!

If you like indie games the Vita is nice though don't expect too many big name games to come to Vita, even Sony has pretty much abandoned it except for indie games.

As for playing Japanese games you can but you will need a separate memory card for each region you want to play and I will be honest memory cards for the Vita are way overpriced. You will have to create a profile on each memory card with a different region since profiles on Vita are tied to the memory cards.

PS TV is a console, so there's the comparison. But it doesn't play many of the best Vita games, but it's getting cheaper and cheaper now so it might be worth getting one this summer.

Obviously, the games aren't similar to PS4 games at all. 3DS is getting more ports of console games than Vita which only gets games from Japan where it's still popular.

If you're getting a Vita, try to get a first generation one. The original Vita has a beautiful OLED screen unlike the updated version.

What's the difference other than the OLED screen?

One consideration is that the remodel is charged with a standard micro-USB cable. The original one uses a proprietary charger that frankly won't be on the market much longer.

The second model has about an hour more battery life because it has a weaker screen, and it has 1GB internal storage. But that's not useful because you can't use it if you also use a memory card. And 1GB is probably not going to be enough for you, so you'll need a memory card. The internal storage is only useful to use sparsely for a second account(in another region for example). The Vita memory cards are really expensive if you didn't know already.

I'm not able to use a personal memory card that I already own, I assume?

No, you have to buy a specific memory card. It's really stupid.

The Vita is rich with quirky Japanese games and indies. The library is nothing like the PS4's. If you can make peace with the fact that the machine will probably never get more first party AAA support, it's an awesome little machine.

Yeah, I can deal with that.
Ok, it's decided, I'm getting a Vita....now I need a good deal. Thanks folks, very appreciated.

The best deals are the ones that come with a memory card(unless you absolutely need a 32 or even 64GB one, you'll need to get those seperately).

I'll probably get most of my games from 99gamers, so it shouldn't be a problem.
