@Tsurii At least the lance and bow vids showed that blood is actually able to be toggled on.
My only complaints are on how the CB attack effects look even wimpier and that the IG looks plain stupid (as in, literally Frontier Tonfas stupid-- @Joeynator3000). As I've been saying, they gave the GS more combo options-- they were pushing in that direction in 4th gen already. Besides it and the IG, the weapons clearly look like themselves.
Aerial style really left its fingerprints everywhere. I'm just laughing at all the people who hated the flashiness of Gen and expected World to be more down to earth.
@Tsurii Except the Slinger has only really been used to go from point A to point B and a tiny bit in mounting-- doesn't seem like you can really use it in open areas, either.
The demo vid players have always been kinda mediocre and are just showing off the weapon movesets rather than actually fighting well with them.
And the lack of blood, I think, is the exact reason why the attacks seem to have so little feedback. There's still hitstun (if anything, they've jacked it up)-- it's just the dust effect that ruins things.
I'm fine with most of the new OTT stuff (thanks for teaching me a new abbreviation)-- I just don't think it meshes with the duller visual style. Saturate the colors, jack up the effects a bit, push it a bit further away from photorealism, and presto.
What group of fools are you hanging out with? Even the subreddit is nowhere near that levels of hypocritical (they just like posting photoshops of people barfing on Fates).

I'm glad you have no power over this game's direction.

Well the Switch Axe stopped glowing whenever its in motion to the point where I can actually play it again, so that's a plus. It also helps that the visual effects besides the dust are smaller, subtler, and easier to read amidst everything. All of the crazy moves are more grounded now. Instead of every weapon getting crazy adept / brave i-frames, it's just the Long Sword. Instead of aerial attacks having that strange vaulting system that put hunters out of range of the majority of monster attacks if they even tried, hunters physically run up a monster now. In the case of the Sword & Shield and Insect Glaive, certain attacks vault them up into the air when they connect. Even the Glaive's airdash insanity is explained by air bursts as opposed to some glow-y hunter art.
I know I never complained about the comic book physics, it's just certain parts of Cross were admittedly clunky. It's so nice that all of these weapons can just be swapped out at camp now, no fiddling with styles, setting hunter arts, or gunner armor. Monster Hunter is supposed to be pick up and play like that.
There's one guy freaking out saying the game "looks like a generic action game... or God Eater" (implying that's even worse) and that "all the originality has been stripped away", complaining about being able to slowly trot around with the HBG of all things.
Of course, there's another guy who's saying that anyone who prefers XX over what we've seen of World is an idiot. But all that's at the bottom of the page-- I reported the latter guy at least.

Gunlance gets the dung covered end of tbe stick this time it seems. It amazes me how they up the mobility of already powerful and popular weapons like the GS and IG, but just slaps a single attack on probably the least used weapon in the game and call it a day.
On a unrelated note, I just love that downward punch of the SnS air combo. It's just so out of no where. xD
Yeah, the colors are definitely a lot duller than I would like in World. Why does making something more "western" seem to be synonymous with making it less colorful?
@Ralizah Because of the obsession with photorealism.
@Joeynator3000 Still funny that you claim Gen was trying too hard to be like Frontier but then we get all these new combo paths and stuff that keeps the game looking OTT a la Frontier (minus particle effects).
@Bronze GL is pretty popular, actually. And the lance has a forward hop that they didn't show-- GL likely at least has that.
Speaking of the lance, GH noticed that they only ever did two back hops in the footage: the first covered a lot of ground while the second covered very little. Considering stuff like the emphasis on combo GS and the shots taken at mixed sets (new skill system, no talismans), it's possible that this could be Capcom to "correct" the weapon and kill evade lancing. ...Or it's just to "make up" for the forward hop.
Also: the LS literally strikes the Brave style pose right before the first transition. It also does a deadringer for the brave evade that is used to transition into the jumping slash. In addition, the HBG seems to have taken the slide from Brave style as well.
The way all of the weapon attacks looked in Gen/XX still reminds me of Frontier, even monsters like Astalos looked Frontier-ish.
This game doesn't look like Frontier to me.

@Joeynator3000 Zinogre looks Frontier-ish. Gore is Frontier-ish. Heck, Shagaru Magala is the most Frontier like monster in the series (Gore Magala, painted gold, with more spikes and a bunch of AOEs).
The only difference here is particle effects. Heck, I don't think even Frontier's gone this over the top with actual movesets (due to it being based on 2nd gen and lacking any aerial mechanics) besides Tonfas, of which the IG stole the airdash from.

@CrazedCavalier Could you point me into some links/statements that prove that they are popular?
@Joeynator3000 That statement changes nothing. The devs introduces flying insect glaive users and dragon twister dual blades for immediate hype. What ever they have for gunlance that has not been revealed yet probably wont be that amazing.
@CrazedCavalier Photo-realism doesn't necessitate muted colors, though. Lots of animals and environments in reality are vividly, spectacularly colorful.
The game looks prefect to me, I don't want it to look any different save for turning blood on and dust off. A giant tree is all I could have asked for for a forest area, not to mention the beautiful day/night cycle it's all painted by, the shadows tracing by in real time. The armors still look as colorful as ever, and the Ancient Forest looks on par with forest areas in past Monster Hunter games, just immensely more detailed in every way imaginable. Of course if you look at the beach area 14 times it's going to look washed out — it's sand!
That being said, I'm pretty done with gold monsters. Feels like I'm fighting a Zelda box art. Not to mention I couldn't even distinguish Seregios from the rosy tan dunes when it was whipping around in 4U, which hurt my reaction times.
@Bronze Yeah, it seems like the lance and the Gunlance are the weapons the devs refuse to change. That's disappointing, but I liked the weird spiked mine the GL shot out.
@Bronze There's no official weapon usage numbers-- I guess GL mains just tend to be pretty loud and fervent.
@Ralizah True. I guess it's that darker palettes also tend to look more "grown up" and "edgy".
@Joeynator3000 Gore is incredibly nonstandard, looking like it's got a cape and spreading it scales and can also somehow form explosions. Shagaru, as I said, is just a spikier (they're clipping through you when you mount it) and more explosive re-skin of Gore (like how Frontier tends to re-skin existing monsters for "new" monsters that are really just variants).

I hope that they will at least tune the blocking mechanics in general. I would get a painfully rapid eye roll practice section whenever a hunter would stay in that blocking position long after blocking a light attack. If a hunter could react immediately after blocking with one of the heavy shields, that in it self would be enough to shut me up for the most part.
@CrazedCavalier The concept of it is pretty awesome. If there are a greater amount of gunlancers than I predicted, I'll be fine with believing it. It's viability however is underwhelming. Generally, it has the slowest soloing times against almost all monsters.
Looking like a badass is one thing it does well, but I'd have much more fun if I could do more with it. This is why I'm just not impressed with the harpoon mine thing by itself. Raw damage is not the main problem, it's the blocking, sheathing, and backing away all the time that sets its average dps to a crawl. It lacks any moves that allows the hunter to go in, mess mofos up and handle threats quickly and efficiently. (Threats being the enemy attacks, not the enemy itself)
Like gaurd points. The dude has a big ass shield that covers half of his body. Why wouldn't he be able to block after a rising slash or a shell? (The shell gaurd point may be a little much, but give me SOMETHING defensively, capcom. Please)
They don't have over-the-top insane attacks like the monsters in Frontier though, the most they have is firing three....virus....orb....thingies at you. Shagaru's virus storm is more of a phase than an actual attack.
Whatever, it won't change my mind, lol.
