@Ravage - That whole "40k to put up a patch" is probably something people like Microsoft use to discourage devs from releasing incomplete games and relying on Day 1 patches to finish up games, and so they can better promote an image of having a ton of high-quality software in their game libraries. Definitely a risk-reward thing going on there.

Except that just means that when a dev runs out of money and is forced to release their game too early, it won't ever get fixed. You also cannot anticipate every bug that may show up. $40k is too steep for an indie developer to patch unless they are fairly successful. And success commonly relies on "word of mouth" rather than a Call of Duty slapped on the cover.
