UPDATE: The new Tech Demo, version 0.0.3, is available for you to try out! I'm really needing some feedback, so any comments are appreciated! You can download the newest demo here.

Some of you may remember my old game project ZOMMIES: ATTACK!
I abandoned the project awhile ago, and rather abruptly. But, after seeing footage of the upcoming indie game Shovel Knight, among others, I've been inspired to reboot this project. Plus, I have about 70 pages of plans/notes regarding this project; it'd be a shame to put them to waste!
I've been fiddling around with a myriad of game/programming/graphics ideas and techniques since abandoning the ZOMMIES project, and my skills in the field have improved drastically. I'm scrapping the original project, and working completely from the ground up (you've already seen the improved logo/new name ). I feel confident that I can finally make my dream a reality!

Updates (and an actual demo for you guys to play!) should be coming in the following days! Also, as those of you who've played my Great Gatsby game will know, since abandoning ZOMMIES:ATTACK! I've changed from working under Gioku Games to Electric Prune Juice Games. Which I think is a much more creative title. Anyway, as an example of what to expect from this rebooted project, here's the new logo for Electric Prune Juice:

No game demos today, but Electric Prune Juice now has a website! The link is in my signature.
The game is coming along nicely now! I have all the physics set up, now all I need are characters and graphics!
You guys should have a demo to try out this weekend! I'm really happy with how this is turning out!

Alright everyone, my first beta/tech demo will be available sometime between now and Tuesday! It'll feature the very first mission of the game... and not much else. But it's looking really good so far (IMO, at least ) So I'm excited to let you all give it a try! And, maybe (hopefully?) you'll find some bugs I didn't catch. So be on the lookout!

The demo isn't working for me (Windows 7). The program closes just as the Electric Prune Juice logo appears, and it also makes my Antivirus software scan it as a 'suspicious program'

I'll be happy to play the demo once its fixed

How very strange... I'm also on windows 7, and it runs perfectly. I wonder if it's your antivirus program that's causing it to close?

Anyway, I'd like some other people to try it out first, and see if they have similar problems before I try and change anything.

EDIT: @Bulby: Someone else has managed to play the game without issue, so I think your's is an isolated case. My guess right now is that it's your antivirus software that's interfering with it.

What are the controls? This would be an impressive game if I knew how to fire!
Options is broken by the way. On the main menu and in paused.

I have nothing really to say about myself.

And I totally forgot to put the controls here! I've posted them everywhere except on this forum, whoops!

  • A/D: Walk left/right
  • W: Aim up
  • Shift: Sprint
  • Space: Jump
  • Ctrl: Shoot
  • E: Interact
  • Enter: Advance text
  • Left/Right Arrows: Change weapons
  • Esc: Pause

Also, development is running very smoothly, so the next demo is coming soon! It'll be available later today, I just need to finish building the next level! The next update after that will probably take a bit longer, as it'll involve a lot more drawing, and a boss battle. So be on the lookout!

And @slayer, I'd like to hear your feedback now that you know the controls! Thanks!

I am among those who got the first part just using my pistol and never the SMG, and I never took damage and it didn't take me that long.

Well, that's good! I wouldn't want the first level of the game to be too hard! But don't worry, the game will get harder...

This next update will probably be ready sometime later this week! It'll be a rather large update; it'll add music, an entire new area (the catacombs), the first boss battle, an inventory system, and an entire new class of weapons (special weapons, and there will be one special weapon in the next demo). I can't wait to get this one done!

Also, if you haven't yet played the current demo, please feel free to do so! I'm still looking for feedback on the current update, too!

The project is still underway! It doesn't seem like anyone's been interested recently, though...

But here's a new screenshot; it's the same location as the previous screenshot, but with some graphical updates:

However, the main news I'd like to share is that I'd like to have some help designing the game! Right now my two newest ideas are ghosts and demons, as enemies. The demons will look like zombies, but will be completely black, and have glowing purple eyes and a purple aura around them. They'll chase the player and require a special weapon to defeat. Right now what I'm trying to decide what the special weapon should be. Mummies require the "Mummy's key" to be defeated (which looks like an ankh and fires little ankhs), but what should defeat the demons? Maybe you have a good idea!

Also, I'd like to have ghosts (mostly for the haunted house), but I'm not sure how to implement them. What should they look like? How should they be defeated? Right now I'm thinking of parodying Luigi's Mansion, and use a vacuum cleaner to catch them. Not a special vacuum cleaner, just a vacuum cleaner. What do you think?

I think the best way to design a game is to make a game that players want to play, and the best way to do that is to take suggestions from people. Major portions of the design already have come from some of the many ideas I've gotten from people from my Zommies: Attack! project, so I'm happy to hear any ideas you might have! Thanks in advance to anyone who helps out!
