Were Pokemon G/S GB or GBC games? What about Yellow? Were Red/Blue the last big hits for the OG GB or was it Gold/Silver? Is the answer to that question the same or different in different regions depending on when the GBC released? I think that's how this question is going to play out for Switch 2.
The way I experienced that phenomenon as a kid in '99 it was playground word of mouth with Red/Blue and the GBC happening at the same time. I believe I got my GBC in late '99 as a Birthday or Christmas present but after I got Silver. But those events were basically ontop of each other, so in my mind I see G/S as GBC games
But even then, if you talk about the end of the GB? A lot of people will just straight up include the GBC as part of the original GB. Despite the fact that there were plenty of games on GBC that could not be played on the GB. Even on NSO it's not like there's a GB and a GBC app, there's the GB app
For Switch -> Switch 2 the way BC and cross-gen will play out I think it's going to be a very murky transition period. Not murky in the sense that it won't be clear what can play where. Just murky in the sense that on forums like this in 10-20 years time there will be debate about when the Switch generation ended. Some will argue for TotK, some will argue for something like Princess Peach Showtime, some will argue for an early cross-gen title like Metroid Prime 4 .... and some might even argue that the last Switch game is instead whatever the last "Switch 2" only game ends up being
I'm guessing it'll be the swansong in the sense that it will be the last completely new first-party game for the Switch. All the other Nintendo-developed games announced for the end of the year and for 2024 are remakes/remasters.

Nintendo sometimes announces new titles mere months before they release. I don't think it's likely that Peach will be the last new Nintendo game on Switch that isn't crossgen or a port/remaster/remake. Rhythm Heaven seems like a possible Switch exclusive that could come out before or after Switch 2 releases. I also wouldn't outrule another Mario Party or some other smaller title.

Mario Party games are not really smaller titles, both of the ones on Switch have sold over 10 million copies. I agree that's it's not impossible Nintendo might still announce some completely new game after Princess Peach, but I doubt it'll be a new entry of Mario Party. If they have one of those in the works, it'll probably be saved for the next console, as it'll be a guaranteed hit for that one.

They very well could wait, but they even made a budget game like Mario Party: The Top 100 for 3DS after Switch launched. And I meant Mario Party is a small to medium game at most in development and budget.

Might be the last first party game, but I'm not convinced Nintendo is going to leave the Switch in the cold. Especially, if the Switch 2, winds up being like a phone upgrade where we see new ones every 4-5 years. Guess we'll see what happens when the next model gets released in 2024.
This discussion is focused more on the last major first party release for the current platform, not the final game. For contrast, the last game released for the Wii was probably Just Dance 2020. But the Wii's swansong was The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, even though it wasn't the last first party game released for the Wii.
Other considerations are that remakes, remasters, and ports don't qualify, only original works for the target platform.
