I think I'd love an official remake of Super Mario 63. That game is good but is so restricted in flash.

Um, I don't think Nintendo will ever "remake" fan games...

@OwlHighway1Revisited I know but this is an agenda thing and I want people to start pushing for it... so I might as well start with hypotheticals and let it snowball into a movement like the ones that push for remakes all the time.

Psycho Waluigi, or Waluigi's taco stand may be excellent choices to remake.

KidSparta

Step 1: Acquire Slippi
Step 2: Pay the guys that made it to port it and maintain it
Step 3: Profit

You can’t control the way others talk to you, but you can control the way you talk to others.

TheSaneInsanity

@KidSparta I'll do you one better, Smash Flash 2. That one is perfect, it even has characters like Tails and Chibi Robo.

I’m a little confused about this thread. Fan games and Nintendo don’t exactly fit in the same sentence, even as a “imagine if” post. It’s like asking “what type of clothing do you sell?” to a McDonald’s employee. It just doesn’t sound right. Nintendo has always taken down/opposed fan games. Why suggest which fan games they should remake?

Wait, why do we need a signature? Eh, I don’t know. Here’s your signature.

The issue is mostly regarding Nintendo's trademarks. If you can make a fan game without infringing any of those, Nintendo probably won't bother you. An example of this would be Secret Maryo Chronicles. It's been around for over twenty years now and has been downloaded over three million times. Nobody, so far as I'm aware, has ever received a cease and desist over it though.

In terms of Nintendo-published fan games, I'd think that Cadence of Hyrule is the closest you'll get to one of those. I'd think that it's something that could only happen for games that Nintendo wouldn't make the like of themselves but consider of high enough quality not to devalue their IP. That's not a combination that's going to happen too often though.

Psycho waluigi seems fun.
(Seriously Nintendo your being outdone by Sega when it comes to accepting fan games of your IP!)

@Tasuki The game is being remade, I don't think it matters who made it first in this situation. It's a game that was made once using Nintendo's IP so they have a right to Remake it.

For example they could remake Mario Party 2 Play, that's one of the highest quality fanmade mario parties, it has a board and 30 minigames which nintendo could boost the amount of. Or that one where Mario and Luigi go to a minigame park.

What a bizarre thread. The OP seems pretty innocuous to me

@Rambler Lets see you disprove that nintendo owns the rights to fangames, and thus the right to remake it. I know that they probably never will but let us see. Denial of Reality is a very powerful thing, it gets people to crusade for remakes for normal things all the time.

Pokemon Uranium I was going to suggest some adult fangame to not be innoucous about it, but pokemon uranium is simply better than any cheap nsfw. Oh and don't pull that pretending to be an adult stuff on me, that don't matter. It doesn't matter because I am in denial of reality to acheive my goal.

This Denial is more likely than not to not acheive my goal. VERY Likely not acheive my goal, maybe if I persist this will trend eventually. This is a fantasy.... MY FINAL FANTASY. ***rimshot***

Oh no, I agree with you, I was just curious as to how the replies turned out
I'm not up at all on the fangame scene at all, but I do like the idea of kinda bringing them in from the depths and making them sort of canon.

As an aside, I always hoped that Ninty would employ those folk who have upscaled OOT, etc as that would be a good use of their efforts. However, I would imagine that would open the floodgates of every chancer trying it on with the big N

This smiley it compels me to agree with you no matter your point. If I were to find out it twas a false smile, ye, it would not work nearly as well on meself.

With what happened with Sonic Mania? I think Nintendo still has the ability to be selective here, just like Sega does.

I don't know any Mario x Sonic fangames by heart but pretend I suggested one here. Also the OOT hack The Missing Link would be fantastic. Any of Kaze's work would be fantastic.

Just looked up the definition of innoucous, it meant harmless, not innocent.... still has the same prefix/root so I'm assuming partial intent. Vinicius's Pikmin 3 Mission Mode levels are good enough some of the time. Or Pikifen which is basically a Mario Maker style of Pikmin.

If you're looking for an example of someone who opened the door a little too wide for fangames, try Valve. There was a period where pretty much everyone could make mods of the Half Life games and sell them on Steam, at least so long as they could get them past the Greenlight process.

This produced some very good ones, like Black Mesa and Team Fortress Classic, but also some utter garbage, most notably Hunt Down the Freeman. Suffice it to say that Valve eventually closed that door, but the games it produced are still up for sale.

In the case of both Sega and Nintendo, they're clearly both open to dealing with small indie publishers, but have very high standards of what they'll publish.
