Hi all. My kids have one switch and one copy of each game. With Animal Crossing my daughter 'owns ' the game (it's a digital copy) so they all played on her island. However, my youngest wants to have his own island. If I buy a physical copy now, will it have a different save file so he can play on his own island?

CM01

Only one island per console.

@Megann120 Just to bolster CM01 above, the Switch ecosystem limits one island per console. The only way to have another island, is to have another console. Thats how the game was designed. Multiple players on a console are intended to share the island.

Game progress is stored on the Switch internal memory. It doesn't matter if you got the game digitally or physically, or have both. The Switch doesn't care where the game comes from, both formats of the game store & pull game save data from the same location on the Switch's internal memory.

ACNH was designed only 1 save file for 1 machine, nothing more nothing less.
Unlike ACNL on 3DS, every version of ACNH are universal so even if you buy two copies in different region, it will be considered as exactly same game.
The only way to have another island for ACNH by buy another Nintendo Switch machine.
Yeah, it was suck but it was Nintendo's decision to boost Switch machine sales by limiting the save data of ACNH by only 1 per 1 machine, forcing peoples to buy another Switch if they want another island.
