They made Kirby Battle Royale for the 3DS back in January. I personally think Nintendo shouldn't take a huge dive into Battle Royale on something like Splatoon 2, especially now that the genre seems to be slowing down and dying.
Splatoon excels at gameplay where splatting and surviving is only a means to an end, and not the primary objective. Battle royale would feel like a backward step.
Not great at Splatoon but it doesn’t feel like the splating is even the main objective, it’s more about covering more turf, or controlling the tower
I know splating helps keep or gain those things but it’s not the main part
Now shooters like cod or battlefield with team death match th kill count does matter towards the win outcome so battle royale would blend into those style of games
At first I didn’t see the big appeal, since “battle royal” is just a spin on a classic game mode “king of the hill”. The style of PUBG and Fortnite as well as other knock offs seem to prey off the styles of popular shooters as of late which turned me off some as well. I eventually did try Fortnite when it came on Switch and I kind of started to understand why and it’s because of its pick up and play nature. I’ve always been bad at these kind of massive online shooters (I prefer games like TF2), and was already getting a couple kills but after 10 minutes I got bored and haven’t touched it since. So I do understand why people like it now.
Though back to topic and that’s about Nintendo and battle royal, I just have this to say and I don’t think they’ll do it. Everything about the gameplay and style of these games is unoriginal, and that’s just something Nintendo doesn’t really take part in. They’re more about creating unique experiences, breaking boundaries and expectations (well most expectations to some fans). That’s something that can’t be done in battle royal since it’s just such a shallow cut and paste concept. But that’s just my thought.
My Top 9 Favorite Games of All time.
1. Judgement
2. Baldur's Gate 3
3. Bully (Rockstar)
4. Person 4 / Golden
5. Sonic Adventure 2
6. Xenoblade X
7. Ape Escape 2
8. Animal Crossing: New Leaf
9. James Bond 007 Nightfire
Battle Royales are a fad, and one I personally don't find that interesting. I play a bit of Fortnight but it isn't nearly the amazing game for me that it appears to be for others. I much prefer traditional deathmatch in regular shooters, and turf war in Splatoon.
In a BR like Fortnight you jump into a game, and then run around collecting stuff, get into a fire fight, kill a couple, maybe, and die. Match over. Usually like 90% is just running around the map looking for stuff that you instantly lose at the end.
