There's something I want to ask you guys, what can Ninjala do to improve? šŸ¤”
I'm asking because I mentioned Ninjala a week and a half (ish) ago, in regards to it not receiving any nominees for The Game Awards, and someone said that Ninjala has "some serious issues". I was also reading through the comments on previous Ninjala articles, and people seemed pretty excited for it before it was released, so it makes me kind of sad (and confused) as to what happened to the hype of Ninjala.
Who knows, maybe an issue that you had with Ninjala at launch (or in the betas) has now been fixed, so list any issues you have (or had) with Ninjala to see if it's been fixed. šŸ¤”

EDIT: Hereā€™s a list of problems that people have said that they have with Ninjala (most of these problems are ones that people have mentioned since launch)

  • Confusing tutorial (Kind of confused by this, as I didnā€™t find it confusing)
  • Luck based parry system (You can now ā€œexitā€ parries)
  • One-time consumable weapons skins (This has been kind of fixed in Season 3)
  • Not enough maps, especially at launch
    (Did Splatoon 1 even have 5 maps at launch? I thought it was 2 (or 3) maps as well) šŸ¤”
  • Expensive cosmetics

It's very deflating to enjoy something that nobody else seems to care for. That's why when I get the time I'll check out Ninjala, seeing as SM3DASislit's efforts to get something happening with Ninjala seemingly goes unnoticed. As a lvl34 player on Splatoon Wii U, I can't see any reason why I wouldn't like Ninjala.

@Taceus
THANK YOU SO MUCH for saying that! (Sorry for the all caps, I just really appreciate you saying that). Yeah, it really stinks because I'm trying to get people to try Ninjala (without posting about it so much that people start calling me a spammer/troll), but basically whenever I try to get a conversation going about Ninjala, almost everyone either dismisses it or just doesn't respond. I was starting to get concerned that even Nintendo Life itself (i.e. the staff) weren't beginning to care about Ninjala, as the last 2 news tips I sent them about Ninjala didn't get posted, and they're pretty with writing articles that had news tips sent to them. What stinks, even more, is that my own friend, who really likes Splatoon, isn't really into Ninjala, which is surprising and sad to see. He doesn't mind playing it with me when I'm on, but he like never plays it on his own time.

Wait, what happened to your post? I checked the Monster Hunter Rise Forum later to see if there was anything new people were talking about (like I usually do with various Forums), and it seems to be gone all of a sudden. šŸ¤”

I was interested in Ninjala, but honestly, the F2P aspect kinda disinterested me and then the Rock Paper Scissors thing and combat just wasnā€™t as satisfying as Splatoon 2. And I put in hundreds of hours into Splatoon. It still seemed like a quality game, but it just made me want to play Splatoon 2.

Still, Ninjala is crazy popular. Itā€™s surpassed several million downloads. It just seems like the people on this particular site have certain interests. Iā€™m sure the Ninjala subReddit is really active if looking for robust discussion. Thatā€™s always a good failsafe if not gaining traction on NintendoLife.

MPSSislit

@JaxonH
I didn't realize that, I guess I missed your comments on the previous Ninjala articles. Oddly enough, the F2P aspect is actually what made me even more interested in it. I also don't seem to mind the Rock Paper Scissors aspect. You can actually get out of that now by pressing the L button. That's the same way with my friend, he said that he would rather play Splatoon 2 or Smash Ultimate. At least you think it's still a quality game. šŸ¤”

I know that it's been downloaded millions of times, but it doesn't feel that way on here. Even the people who I've dubbed as the "Ninjala Gang", I feel like aren't doing enough to rally behind Ninjala. (As much as I hate to say that).
I came to theorize that maybe people on Nintendo Life aren't into F2P games, but when Genshin Impact released that theory started to be questioned. I've actually been surprised how much support Genshin Impact has been getting. I expected Genshin Impact to be dismissed as a "Chinese knock-off of BOTW" like it was getting before it launched, but it ended up being a Mario + Rabbids reception situation instead.
For Ninjala, I expected the reception that Genshin Impact is getting currently to be the case for Ninjala. Basically, I expected the opposite reception for both games, but the reverse is what actually happened (if that makes any sense at all).
Heck, I would even say that ARMS has a more loyal fanbase than Ninjala does, even though ARMS has about half of the copies "sold" than Ninjala does.
Well, with Reddit being "Reddit", I don't know how civilized the conversation would be, until it turned into something completely random, that wasn't even brought up. šŸ¤”
I hope that I'm making at least some sense, and I also hope I haven't come off as defensive or sharp in this post, or my previous post. šŸ¤” If this came off as a rant, then I am sorry.

That's odd, I wasn't notified that you @'d me, otherwise I would have replied sooner, sorry. I have a nearly 4yo daughter that takes up a lot of my time, but as a doting dad I wouldn't have it any other way.
I should have some time spare later on today to finally give Ninjala a go, then I'll be back here posting my impression of it.
I must say, when I first saw it I really liked the look of it. Someone (I think Jump) mentioned it's like a mash-up of Splatoon and Sunset Overdrive (the second reason, behind Rare Replay, that I would want an XBox One) so I'm definitely keen to give it a go.
As for my disappeared post, I figured my Great Wall of Text was a bit too much and deleted it.

Huh, that is odd, you're totally fine. I get that people have things that keep them busy throughout the day, whether it's family, hobbies, etc, or if you're just in a different time zone. šŸ¤”
Oh cool, don't feel pressured into trying it out. I hope I haven't posted too much about Ninjala, and haven't hyped it up too much. If you want to see the criticisms that people have said about Ninjala, just check this thread.
So, if you don't mind me asking, when did you first see Ninjala? šŸ¤”
Great Wall of Text? That's gold.
Actually, people post "Great Walls of Text" a decent amount (especially in The Chit Chat Thread). While there's nothing with that, I can get how that can be overwhelmed as I can get overwhelmed reading one huge "Great Wall of Text" as well. If you feel like your post is too big, you can split it up into 2 posts. šŸ¤”

Just my luck, when I tried to play it maintenance was being done, fortunately it was good to go half an hour later.
I must have spent an hour on this, most of that was reading through the menu's and online manual, as well as the tutorial which isn't that long at all. Played two games (would've been longer but had to go get dinner), came third in both due to focusing on drone kills. Gotta say, I like it. I can see myself spending more time with it trying out the different weapons, playstyles and chasing the unlocks/rewards.
It'll make for a good break from playing Rogue Company and vice-versa. And I'm tempted to get season one for the offline single player.
The only issue with it personally (and I'm nitpicking here) was the boxed in arena we were playing in, but from videos I've seen there are more arena's, so I'll have to be patient.
Keen to spend some more time with it, until then I'll be checking out hints, tips and strategy video's on YT to equip myself with some knowledge. I need to, cos' in the heat of battle what I learnt in the tutorial was quickly forgotten, replaced by mindless button-mashingšŸ˜–
Edit: Apologies, it's now less a wall and more a fence of text. I'll keep trying.

Yikes, at least the maintenance was over shortly after you got on.
Yeah, it does take a bit to get through the menus at first, but once you do, it doesn't take long to get into battle. Nice job with getting third place both times. That's good that you seem to like it.
When Ninjala first released, it was the only thing I was playing for like the first month. I would recommend the Story Mode Chapters, however, the Chapters are on the shorter side of length.
I think you mean the WNA Academy stage? I actually like that stage. There's a stage I don't like as much,(Eagle City), as I feel it's too big of a stage.
I really appreciate you trying it out, and going in with an open mind. Let us know if you need help, as the rest of the Ninjala Gang should be able to help you out.
I actually didn't see it when it was a wall of text. You're totally fine, like I said before, if you need to split into 2 posts, then do that.

@SM3DASislit Hey dude, I would like some help.

Its been a bit since I played ninjala but the issue is, I kinda don't like it to much, But I feel like the reason for that is, I don't know how to fully play it, I don't know the tech, and I can tell when I go into battle i'm making it cake for them, so uh, so tips would be nice if you have them. Thanks.

@Snatcher
I'm glad you decided to try Ninjala out again, and are asking for help. It's always good to ask for help when you don't understand something.

For me, I only have used the "starter weapon" since Ninjala launched, and haven't changed weapons. I would also stick to the unlimited version of each weapon, unless you buy the Ninjala Pass, that is.
Also, if you want to not have to do a parry, I believe you can just click the L button to get out of it. Also, you can use the Y button as a dash attack-type of move, and if you hold down ZR while holding down ZL, you can use that as a Gum move (meaning you can attack people with the bubble you blow up).

Also, I got the following tips from TimboSlice when I was talking to them about Ninjala when it reached 3 Million downloads almost a year ago. I hope this helps you out.

TimboSlice wrote:

Be warned, super steep learning curve. At the beginning, you feel like mashing buttons and wonā€™t understand why you are losing. But be patient and watch videos! Or ask friends.

Here are my tips:
1. Play team games first to get the hang of it and not get swarmed by 7 other players.
2. When you start look to break those drums and once you get the energy you can create your BIG weapon. That helps you win ties in the clashes with opponents who only have a small weapon!
3. If you win a clash, and it doesnā€™t kill them, use R as your next attack because most of the time they are gonna block, and this will gun bind them and/or break their weapon!
4. Pay attention to your missions. By focusing on doing those (and switch them up if you donā€™t like it, itā€™s CHEAP) will help you advance levels super fast.
5. If start with one of the yo-yo weapons to keep you a bit at distance from others so you can ā€œseeā€ whatā€™s going on and get the feel of the game.

@SM3DASislit Well I like this newer weapon they came out with but before that, I was maining the skateboard, Last time I played I feel'd like I was actually getting better, but then I stopped for I can't remember, And and about the battle bass, I do have the jala to get it as ninjala is pretty nice when it comes to handing that stuff out, Is the Pass ending soon? bc if it is I will just wait.

@SM3DASislit Ok I feel like I have a good hold on the game, And I have been going through loots of weapons, Can I have more then one main or should I stick with only one? And is there any advanced tips? Things that I should really know when it comes to battle?

@Snatcher
Well, if the skateboard was the weapon, you think you're best, then continue using it. Actually, Season 6 just started a couple of weeks ago, so the Battle Pass won't end until early September, IIRC.

There's also a Budget Ninjala Pass, which only costs 300 Jala goes up to Tier 30, and then you can upgrade to the Full Pass for 650 Jala.

I just stick to one weapon, but I tend to do that in games, so Iā€™m not sure. What I do is if you want to try out multiple weapons, is to stick with one weapon until you feel youā€™re really good with it, then switch to a new weapon, and repeat the process, until you have a few weapons that youā€™ve mained.
With regards to the tips and things to know, Iā€™ll have to get back to you on that once. Iā€™ll have to do some ā€œresearchā€ just so I can know for sure what to say about this question.
Hope this helps.

@SM3DASislit Oh yes this does help, I got the battle pass a week ago when you told me about it, plus it was free, I'm at level 45 or somthin I can't remember, as for the weapon, I'm done with the skate boi, I have moved on to that yo yo that looks like a basketball, I really love the game play, plus I'm kinda i'm the guy who goes from close up to long rang, so this weapon works with both, I have played with this weapon for more matches without switching, then any of the other's, I think something has clicked.

I think I might be able to get the battle pass done by this month with the rate i'm going at, Also I will like to ask one more thing, I play team matches as I don't like the BR ones, But in team matches I see people getting massive scores, so do they just get that from kills or?

And man I had one hell of a losing streak today, I can tell when my team doesn't do the best bc my points will mark me number one, on the ending score, I'm not that good at the game at all Yet and I normally get top 3 or 2.

@Snatcher
Okay, glad I could help you out. Oh wow, you're already at level 45, that's crazy. Oh okay, if that's the weapon that "clicks" with you, then more power to you. Yeah, it definitely does seem like you'll be able to complete the pass by the end of this month. That's cool that you're able to enjoy the team matches, even if you're not able to enjoy the regular BR ones as much. Yes, they get the points from kills, but they also points from "killing" the drones as well. So, basically you get points for the things you usually would in the regular BR mode.

Yikes, sorry to hear about your losing streak. It sounds you're really getting the hang of Ninjala.

So, if you don't mind me asking, what made you decide to jump into Ninjala again and give it another shot? I think it's awesome that you're giving it another chance, it just seemed kind of random to me, if that makes sense. Also, do you have any interest in Knockout City or are you just going to stick to Ninjala for now?

@SM3DASislit Ok good bc I see people in team matches getting insane scores, mines is around the 3,000, or 6,000.

Why did I pick ninjala back up? Well its bc of the demon slayer callab TBH, But it when't from that, to me actually wanting to get the pass, reason, The game play wasn't just whoever can win clashes, you actually have to think to get your kills, and string a move here and there, Yes the hammer is still the worst thing to come out of this game (The sound hammer) And I still hate it but I can move around it better now.

Now that i'm finally found a weapon that clicks I have had much more fun, and I have learn'd when to hid, dash, attack, and all sorts of things, But I can tell i'm far from being good at this game, And I kinda want to get better as the last time I was on thats what I was doing but there was no good tutorial, Till now, Another big issue the game has was, it didn't tell you everything or anything, So now that they finally have a tutorial I could actually learn the mechanics of the game.

Plus the pass was free, so I couldn't pass up on that, even tho I'm probably not going to spend money just to get the demon slayer skins.

And like all people I was really happy to see this game come out only to, sorta kinda hate it, But they have fixed so much, actually, they fixed most if not all the main issues I had with the game, and keep't me from in joying it.

And I have kinda moved away from apex legends, I do come back from time to time, but the legend this time around just doesn't make me want to play it, and they had some major glitches, all in all, just some big problems with the game that made me stop playing.

Sorry I just went through all that but you wanted to know why, in short, ninjala has become the game I wanted it to be from the start, I don't hate it anymore even tho, I think there are alot, and I mean alot of issues they can still fix, But I Think they will, I mean they have come this far, and maybe some of those issues I have stated is bc I just don't really know how to move around it or avoid it so this doesn't mean much.
