Definitely looking forward to this game coming to the Switch, and picking up the physical copy. Hopefully it'll be optimized properly. I know there were some issues with that on the PC version for quite a while, but eventually did it.

Aside from Bayonetta, Nier: Automata is Platinum at their finest.
Don't skip.

Everything should be nice and snug on a 16GB cartridge, sans any day-one patches.

@Magician Well that video title is a lie, its their most successful game. :V
I'm happy to see this, but I already bought the game on PS4 recently for like 20 bucks and tbh Platinum is nearly the one developer where I actually really want the performance to be better than "competent".
A portable version of Nier Automata to go alongside Bayonetta 3 and Astral Chain is mint.

If ever there was a game worth the full price, it's this one. Not that $60 is "full price" anymore. Nowadays ppl are paying $70 for games. But even so, Persona 5 Royal will likely be $60. And that doesn't even include all the DLC like this does. And I doubt anyone will think twice about it.
And yet, "Square $70 Enix" is giving us this game with all DLC and exclusive cosmetics for $39.99. It's actually pretty impressive. Idk what's gotten into them.

What do you mean what's got into them? As this game is kinda old it would be rude to make game withouth dlc and make ppl pay for them yet again. Extra missions more story something that has never been seen on the original version than i would understand that they could charge 60 now it's fine and i would even go for less like 30 something.
Yes, it's Platinum's best game ever, but it's five years old and you could have picked it up for free on PC and XBox if you had Game Pass. You could argue it both ways as a value proposition.
I'd also be slightly concerned about performance on the Switch, seeing as it's a far more demanding game than anything else they've ported to it and they didn't do the greatest job with Wonderful 101. Bayonetta 1+2 and Astral Chain are both fine on Switch though, so hopefully it'll more resemble them.
So, definitely one to watch - especially if you've never played it - but I'd wait until the reviews are in before ordering.
@iaLgan
I mean, Square literally just released Final Fantasy VII Remake on Steam after being on PS4 for $60, then PS5 for $70, then Epic Game Store for $70, and then finally makes its way to Steam... for $70
They are notorious for their high prices. So when I say "what's gotten into them" I mean exactly that. They aren't usually this generous.
But for the record, there's nothing "rude" about a company charging a price the market will bear. There are no manners in macroeconomics. And they're not "forcing" anyone to do anything. They could charge $60 all day and plenty of ppl who never played it would gladly buy it, as well as plenty of ppl who did play it but want it on Switch. That's not "forcing" anyone to do anything. The World doesn't revolve around you. Not every game is specifically designed with you in mind. SE isn't thinking, "how can we get iaLgan to buy this game again?"

@Matt_Barber
Virtually every 3rd party game on Switch you could say the same for. The thing is, nobody cares if a game was on Gamepass, or was cheaper on Steam, or whatever. It's never stopped anyone before and that's not gonna suddenly change now
Switch gamers just don't care, because they want to play games on Switch. You can tell them a more graphically enhanced version is available elsewhere, you can tell them it's on Gamepass, you can tell them it's cheaper on PS... but they're not gonna care. Because they want to play the game on Switch.
Portal 1/2 just released for $20. One could say they're cheaper on sale on Steam, which is true, but nobody cares. They want Portal on Switch. The value is there because it's on Switch.

I've never played Nier Automata but always wanted to, and I've been hoping for a Switch port for years.
It was easily my favorite announcement in recent Directs. Thrashing feral automation with melancholy Japanese goth-loli android maids will be a real treat, finally!
With this, Dark Souls, 13 Sentinels, No Man's Sky, Witcher 3, and P5 Royal all on Switch I no longer have PS4 envy.
@JaxonH Yeah, my main concern is that it's a good port.
I don't mind paying top dollar for Switch ports that deliver the full gameplay experience, even if the graphics are inevitably going to have to suffer a bit. Conversely, it doesn't matter how low they price it if they mess it up. Fingers are crossed for this one.
Thankfully, quality of Switch releases has been improving over the years. There's still the occasional train wreck (cough cough, Rune Factory 5) but for every bad release there's half a dozen bangers. Harvestella just shows what Rune Factory 5 should have been. Sniper Elite 4, Zombie Army 4, Portal 1/2, Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, Demon Slayer, Neon White... we've come a long ways from the bad ports of the early Switch years. Devs are finally learning the hardware and eeking out as much as possible from it. Pretty impressive actually, seeing just how far they can push the Switch.
I have no doubt Nier Automata and Persona 5 will both be high quality.

@Tyranexx I'll say this: I'm down on Platinum Games overall, and even I loved NieR: Automata. The combat is fast and exciting, but not overly technical. The score is incredible. And it has one of the most thoughtful narratives in the medium.
Also, it can't be overstated how amazing the true ending is.
@Magician That video motivated me to purchase the game. I am now only about 3 hours in but so far I think it has been one of the coolest games I've ever played. The combat is fluid, the story is super interesting (even this early on) and the music is absurdly great.
I will likely post about this game more in the "Games your currently playing?" thread, but I want to give this one a little more time before going in-depth on it. Thank you for sharing that review, though.
