Topic: Games not coming to Switch

In these past two days there were two (for me) huge announcements in gaming. A Tony Hawk 1 and 2 remaster and the Mafia trilogy. By the looks of it both are not coming to Switch.

I’m just disappointed, because these would fit perfectly on the Switch. I have a fairly good pc, but I would love it if they were to be released for Nintendo.

Do you think that Nintendo should try harder to get these games released on Switch or is it that the developers just don’t want to put in the effort?

It's probably both third party developers and Nintendo that are the problem. Some third party developers don't want to pay for a game card, so they sell codes in boxes, and the games are so big that they take up a good chunk of an SD-card. At the same time the Switch launched with 25 gb of usable storage and a Tegra-X1 chip from 2015, so what did they expect?

Hopefully Nintendo will launch a Switch Pro in 2021 that will have a more capable chip and more internal storage. If they do that, they can make their own first party games work with the original Switch, while letting third party developers release their games on Switch Pro only. It's also easy to get the cost down - just sell the Switch Pro tablet on it's own, because many people already have joycons, docks and other peripherals.

I get what you’re saying. I would buy a switch-pro in a heartbeat. I can play a lot of games on my pc no problem, but being able to play games handheld is such a win in my book. I even don’t mind paying again for a lot of games that I already bought on pc/Xbox 360. I just like the handheld aspect that much.

I get that the current switch is a older system, but I just don’t mind visual downgrades. Played wolfenstein 2 and mk11 and had a great time. They don’t look that good of course, but again, the handheld aspect.

I don’t think Nintendo will be launching a switch-pro anytime soon. They said that the current switch isn’t even halfway trough its lifecycle. Believe I read that somewhere.

Nintendo should do something though when the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft are released I think.

A Switch Pro would probably co-exist with the current Switch, but have some exclusive games.

Ideally they would put faster storage, like the PS5 has, into a Switch Pro. The cost would go up greatly if they did that though.

I chalk it up to the languishing bad aftertaste that the Wii U left with publishers. But now that the Switch is the #2 platform in Murica, publishers who previously disregarded the Switch as a viable platform are now more eager to bring their games to it. But I don't believe Nintendo is actively courting publishers at this point. The Switch is established (with nearly 4,000 games available in the eShop).

I'm confident that those Tony Hawk and Mafia games will make their way to Switch...eventually.

It might be that 2K wants to see how well Bioshock, Borderlands and XCOM does on the Switch both sales and performance wise before bringing the Mafia series over. It's odd that 2K is bringing all those other games to Switch but left the Mafia Trilogy out. But as I said maybe they are waiting to see.

@Magician yeah let’s hope they will be brought over. I’m totally with you that the Wii U left a sour taste.

@Tasuki well, I’m gonna help them a little bit, because I’m buying all three 😉

I did think it was weird the Tony Hawk games weren't coming to Switch.

Switch Pro is for sure coming, I think deep 2021, maybe launching alongside the new Metroid game or BotW 2, whichever is coming out first.

There was an article about Switch "barely" being halfway through its life, which I actually think gives more possibility to a Switch Pro for the latter half. I really think they're gonna need some kind of boost in power if Switch is gonna last another 4-5 years and they want mainstream third-party support. Lite and OG Switch will still run first-party and indie stuff just fine, but having the option of more power will keep them further in the game.

@dewokkel I might buy Bioshock but I wasn't big on XCOM and I have already bought Borderlands so many times over the years.
