I deleted FORTNITE from my 10yr old sons Switch as a punishment as my wife asked me to. He tried to tell me I couldn't so that's the real reason I did it.
I have now tried to reinstall it and it won't allow me. I go into the E shop and it says Purchased so none of the buttons work.
This was a Free Download when it was originally installed in case that matters.
I have emailed Nintendo about a week ago but haven't had an answer.
@leroy179
In the eShop, click on the profile icon on the top right of the screen.
On the next screen select redownload software (or purchased software or something like that).
The game should be in that list.
@leroy179 Like Tremblucay said, there's a Redownload page in eshop. The redownload page on eshop keeps a list of every deleted game. Find the game's icon in there to redownload.
@Tasuki Not all parents are gamers or avid console users. This could be the parent's first console with a digital game store, or they just don't know the UI well. Before the Switch, PS2 and Gamecube were my last consoles, which didn't have digital game stores.

Any ideas?
If you're on Fortnite's page on eshop and the game is installed, the purchase button will say "Purchased". If the game had been deleted, the purchase button would instead have the download/cloud icon on it, to redownload the game. So, sounds to me like Fornite is installed on the console.
The Fortnite tile/icon on the switch's home screen changes when the the game has a new season. Depending on how long it's been for you, Fortnite's icon artwork could have changed.
I'm not saying there can't be something else going on, but I think this is most likely what is going on.
Thanks for the reply @Tremblucay & @WoomyNNYes.
I had already tried the Redownload section and it wouldn't allow me to do it.
I have got it to Redownload by changing to one of the other users in the Switch. Seems silly that you can play it from any user but only redownload it from one. @Tasuki Sorry that this didn't seem like a problem to you but as @WoomyNNYes said "Not all parents are gamers or avid console users". I rarely play the Switch Except to play Mario Kart or Fifa with him as FORTNITE and Mindcraft don't interest me.
Like @woomyNNYes I haven't played with many of the modern consoles and my lineup started when I was 6-7 and includes a couple of cartridge and CD accepting machines including the Atari 2600, Nintendo, SNES, Play Station and PS2. I also remember having an older Atari which had a couple of games on it and the controllers were attached and we use to have to unscrew 2 screws on the back of the TV and connect 2 metal prongs to it to make it work. I think It was from the Stone Age. HAHA
@leroy179 Ahhh, there was more than one Switch user profile!!! Ahh, I see. 😁That thought occurred to me, but I didn't want to make things too complicated, and I was trying to stay simple to start off with. Glad you got it sorted out. Nice work!
@WoomyNNYess Yes it seems he has set up more profiles for some reason. When I went into Reload section on the Profile where I deleted it from it said nothing and I just figured it would be gone form all of the profiles.
Thanks again
@leroy179 Many games only have one game save profile per switch user. If you want to start a new game, or playthough, and you don't want to delete your original game progress, making another switch user is the solution. I created a couple switch user profiles so I could start new playthroughs of Breath of the Wild & Splatoon.
@killerflame24 If the game isn't listed on the redownload page of eshop, then the game was probably downloaded from the eshop with a different Switch User/Nintendo account. If you still can't find Fortnite on the eshop redownload page with your other switch user profile, then you're missing something. If that's the case, you're quickest way to a solution is probably to contact Nintendo Support. At this point, they are closed for the night. The phone number & chat messenger are only visible/accessible on their contact page when they are open.
At this point only eShop games or DLC belongs to the account that purchased or downloaded the DLC. If this wasn't connected to any profiles on current Switch then it probably doesn't exists. All purchases or DLC will show up on the ReDownload profile account that's where they are at. Unless that eShop games has been removed from eShop by the publisher then it's gone. If so then you need to contact Nintendo Support in your Region to find out what happened.
@killerflame24 If you haven't done so already, you can read through this troubleshooting page. It's not long. Yes, some of it may seem like basic knowledge, but when you're stuck, all you can do is review things you've already looked at hoping to find that little nugget of info that you've missed, or misunderstood.
If your situation is the result of some weird glitch, you'll need to contact nintendo support. They'll be able to see your account and get you unstuck. Have the nintendo support site opened when you call, in case they point you to a page of directions to get you on your way.... and have your switch handy.
