Topic: Hunting Switch OLEDS for Christmas in US? How to find them at Target. + other stores that have stock.

Anyone in the US has noticed Switch OLEDS are impossible to find onilne at regular retail store sites at regular retail price. (Gamestop sometimes has oleds online, but they are bundled with stuff you probably don't want, selling for $490 USD. The deal is so awful, I don't consider it an option. Who want's to spend another $100-$140 on accessories or a game they don't want?)

Go to Target when they open, which is 7am lately. If the glass Switch case is empty, ask the electronics dept employee if they have any OLEDs in stock. When I went on that morning, that location didn't have stock, BUT the employee used their handheld device to see what other local stores had stock - this is why you need to talk to the electronics dept employee. A few stores had 1 Switch, and one store had 9, which was fifteen miles away. That was an easy drive down the highway. So, I drove to the Target with 9 in stock, and landed a Switch OLED there.

Things I learned:
You can possibly land an OLED, if you can go to Target two mornings when they open, and talk to the elctronics employee. When I asked them to check OLED stock, they voluntarily told me which stores have stock and how many.

Target isn't selling OLEDS on their website, but the Switch OLED pages appear to get updated around 6-8am.(Google target switch oled to find their page - If OLEDS are out of stock at your location, the Target site disables the OLED pages, so they may not be findable via Target's search bar. So, use google if needed.). If they get stock in-store, the OLED page will say, "Limited Stock". To the right of the price, hit "edit store" to check surrounding stores.)

At my preferred local Target, their electronics dept leaves the phone off the hook in the morning (probably because of calls looking for consoles), and because they are trying to stock the store- understandable. After I encountered the busy signal two mornings, I decided I have to go in-person when the store opens.

The electronics dept employee I had could see when a new shipment of OLEDS was scheduled to arrive next. I don't know if all electronics dept employees can do that, maybe? They mentioned sometimes they arrive a day early.

When Target opens, you may have to look around, or ask for the electronics employee, since employees are busy stocking the store. Be patient, and understanding<3.

@NinChocolate Yes. Yes I did. Got a white OLED. It's a gift for Christmas. I was ready to take which ever color was available.

When my brother told me he wanted to get a Switch OLED for kids for Christmas the monday AFTER black friday, I winced & sighed, knowing now could be the hardest time to find an OLED. Since I managed to find some OLEDS, I thought I'd share, in case anyone else had at least a couple mornings to drive to target when they open at 7am (Target's current holiday store hours).

Thank you!

I've been reading similar accounts for Walmart. It sounds like there's a much better chance trying in-person as soon as these places are opening rather than praying for stock online.

Kinda along the same idea, I was in my local Walmart today and decide to check out the video game section and saw 4 Xbox Series S consoles in the case. No Switch OLEDs though.

OLED pages on Best Buy site allow you "check all locations" for stock at surrounding locations (in-stores stock only). I mention it because I see stock at several locations by me. If you're looking for oleds, it's worth a look.

@JaxonH WOW. After two weeks of Walmart only showing third parties selling at inflated scalper prices, that's refreshing to see they got their own regular retail stock. No retailers have had OLED stock to buy online since thanksgiving. This is the first time retailers are selling OLEDs on their site since thanksgiving(at retail price).

edit: Also, I see Target will let me buy the White one online to ship it. I don't know if that's restricted to my area, or not.

edit edit: Maybe I should edit the title to make it a general thread for finding OLEDs for the holiday? Remove Target from the title?

I was in my local Target today, and got to play the demo unit of the OLED Switch and wow what a difference. I will be picking one up here to replace my Switch that was stolen. I just have a few priorities to take care of first.

@WoomyNNYes Wouldn't be a bad idea since I would like to add if you have a membership to Gamefly they do a special members only sale of OLED Switches.

Are these hard to get in America then? My Switch started dying a few days ago, so I just walked into a shop and treated myself to an OLED as a replacement, and got everything transferred across yesterday. I checked beforehand and they were in stock in loads of places here (UK).

@Reprise
Yes. They've been sold out across every major retailer since the preorders went live. They're not quite as rare as PS5/SeriesX but way harder to get than Series S.

This Amazon shipment is the first time since launch its stayed in stock more than half an hour.

@JaxonH That's a shame. I hope you all here that are on the hunt for one for Christmas manage to get it. To be honest, I was shocked I could just go out and buy one here. I assumed it would be similar to the PS5 situation and I had memories of when I was trying to buy Mario Kart Home Circuit last Christmas (I ended up finally scoring one on Amazon days before Christmas, having spent weeks trying to nab one).

OLEDs sell out quickly everywhere, except this Walmart listing. I think the recent terrible reviews are are the reason they aren't selling out. It looks like some bad reviews maybe resulted from third party sellers? Other reviews look like ignorant buyers that had no clue what they were buying (if these are legitimate reviews). I can't believe an official Walmart item would share reviews with third party sellers. Currently, the OLEDS say "sold & shipped by Walmart.com". So, you should be able to trust it, right? Ever since Walmart opened up to third party sellers, Walmart online has seemed to go downhill. I had a bad experience, myself, received a beat up samsung charger that was supposed to be new. But that's just one interaction. Does anyone still trust buying from Walmart's site?

I'm not recommending buying from this link, by the way. If you do buy, make sure you the item page says "Sold & Shipped by Walmart.com".

Contrary to popular belief what is listed on a online site is not what it always is in the store itself. I have actually found some things in person when its not listed as such on the site. I know it's hard to find OLEDS from what I heard.

@Atomic77 Online, yes, they don't stock all the time, and can sell out. Although, in the US, at least in PA, you can totally get your hands on an OLED at Target & Best Buy stores (not online). If you open their OLED pages, and select "check other locations" to see which stores have in-store stock.

Like here, in small print, down on the right side of the page "Buy in-store today"(in small, green font), select "check all locations" and they'll show you which stores have stock. I've seen locations have stock for multiple days.

Regarding that walmart link I pasted above, in the details below the price, it does say "sold & shipped by Walmart.com". I think that means it's not third party. But yeah, their site is littered with third party sellers.

edit: 12/12 Got a white oled for myself at Best Buy. The white oled page on Best Buy's site said the nearest location had some. No consoles were in Nintendo console case. So, I had to ask an employee to check the stock. He didn't know they'd gotten them, looked it up & went in back to get one for me. Might be giving it to myself for Christmas.
