Now dont get me wrong here, its a good game console and I have over 10 games for it, 5 being physical carts and a bunch of eshop titles and I enjoy them all but heres my gripes.

This console is meant to be a direct replacement for my wiiu...I still have my overheating nearly dead wii u, this is an issue for the following.

My wii U has a browser I can access plex server with so I can stream movies from my home network
My wii u has netflix, youtube and amazon video
My wii u has a tv remote built in, its the height of convenience.
It has lots of virtual console games and with trickery it has full on retroarch.

Now the switch

No tv remote
No streaming at all
No browser
No virtual console at alll, just a promise of nes games some day in 2018
The analogue stick placement on the right joycon is beyond sucky, I hate it, half hour on anything in handheld mode with hd rumble my hand goes totally numb.

I dont want my wii u anymore but as you can see here theres no real way of getting rid of it because of the massive lack of features this 2017 tegra powered tablet could have. I can deal with the thumb stick by getting a pro controller but now E3 has been and gone with no added updates or timeline for feature implementation Im worried that I wont ever get even the most basic of requests. Anyone else feel the same?

I cant remember if your wiU had all those things in the first 3 months because I skipped the wiU, but sometimes consoles take time to released updates and features, kinda lame but its how they make it look like they are always working on updates.

If you want to sell it now is the time because its still sold out you can get more now than if you wait till the shelves are full

Honestly, as much as people wanted some information, E3 is not really the place to announce hardware stuff like that. I'm sure it's coming. But I also just wanted to say that easily one of the most underrated features of the Wii U is that it can act as a TV remote. I use it all the time in that way, and it's great.

Luckily i have other platforms for media but even so i agree that the switch should have more media functions. Id say dont give up hope or sell the switch. Im sure many things will be added in time.

I understand somehow your reasons but Switch overall is a much better console than Wii U, its main focus is gaming so movie streaming and TV remote are not basic functions at all if you feel like those are so important for you you simply have chosen the wrong type of device. If you care about gaming and Nintendo games you will end up buying it again sooner or later.

Some of the features like Netflix and YouTube will probably come eventually. Be patient.

I don't really know why you care so much, though. Most people have more than one device they can watch Netflix or browse the Internet on. I would have thought you'd buy a Switch primarily for the games? If all you wanted was something to watch Netflix on, you can get a tablet that you can watch it on for hundreds of dollars cheaper.

I'm going to sound unsympathetic, but I got my Switch to play games on. Like @Jhena, I have other devices on which to watch Netflix and browse the net. In fact, I don't think the Switch, in handheld mode, would be that great for either. I genuinely don't want a web browser - it just opens the door for hackers and pop-up ads. A tablet or smartphone is both much lighter and more convenient, most of the time - although the Switch screen is great and would suit streaming services. And I'm sure they will come eventually, if you can be patient.

I'd also like to see the VC, but I'd be kidding myself if I thought I could play more titles than have already been released and are scheduled to be released over the coming months. If the games aren't doing it for you, @davetheshrew, then sell it - but you'll miss out on Super Mario Odyssey, Metroid Prime 4...

The real issue is the controls. If you find them uncomfortable, and they give you a dead hand, then it really probably isn't worth it. Not every game uses the second thumbstick, but a lot of the AAA ones will.

My television also came with its own remote

@davetheshrew Sounds like you're looking for a multimedia device that can play games instead of a console.

Sell the Switch and invest your money in a decent Samsung tablet instead. You'll get a wide range of multimedia functions and, if you put emulators on it, you can play more old Nintendo games than they'll ever re-release through their VC service.

right lemme just address this whole 'you have another device so dont expect blah..'

I want one console to rule them all. I love nintendo games, I dont have a sony system or microshaft, I love nintendo since I got my nes in 1987. Ninty gave us the wii, it had netflix and other basic stuff that made it a good console for everything, then wii u added to that with tv remote functionality, more streaming apps, hd games that play at 60fps.

Now, 4 years later they bring out this, strip out functions I as a nintendo enthusiast has got used to, bear in mind most ninty consoles and handhelds since gamecube have had a way of weaning you off the old hardware , like gamecube controller ports on the wii, wii controllers and wii games work on wii u etc. Now they changed the rules and expect me to ditch all my old hardware, get used to less functionality and call it progress?

Im highly likely to keep the console, the games are just amazing, but I want to save electricity and have one living room device, like I did when I had only the wii u in my living room. I will wait, but Im not really happy not knowing 100% that I can have most of what my old console gave so I can finally ditch my old hardware.

Turns out the Wii U is a pretty dandy piece of kit. Who knew?

I do agree though. The Switch should have carried over/improved upon every feature the Wii U had. Here's hoping the Switch1.5 does.

also little known thing, its not very important to some but i like to save money when I can

in 24 hours a wii u consumes 0.78kwh. Over a year 284kwh

a switch uses 0.36kwh, over a year 131kwh

HUGE difference.

@davetheshrew I genuinely curious did the wiU have everything in the first 3 months of release?

@davetheshrew Wii had the Photo channel but Wii U didn't. Wii allowed you to play Gamecube games but Wii U didn't. I did not like Wii U that much, but if it was not for those two things maybe I could have tried to stick to it and dismiss my Wii to stay up to date, but ultimately I was losing too many things I wanted so I kept my Wii active and I soon forgot about Wii U. To some extent I have been through the same thing so I understand you, but on the other hand you see that Wii U had those very same issues and I think that Switch is probably the best console ever made, period. It is absolutely worth it to patiently wait and hope for those features to be added in the future. I knew when i bought it that I was going to give up on many features I was used to, but I was sure that this console was a great one and I wanted it no matter what. Now that I have it I can say I was right, the Switch is fantastic, sure I hope it will have photos, virtual console and maybe movies/streaming/browser too in the future but it is far better than Wii U, which was one of the less enjoyable Nintendo home consoles ever made in my opinion.

It seems many people who have a Wii U and a Switch are realising how backwards the Switch is.
3DS players can see a graphical improvement at least, so it's easier for them to give up most features (like browser, streetpass, step tracker, 3D, cameras, miiverse, virtual console), just for the graphics. The loss for those with a Wii U is much bigger though, and the gain is much smaller. I guess it's the PS4 and XBoxOne players who love the Switch so much because for them it's of course a better console, but not for someone who played 4 years on a Wii U.

For Nintendo players the Switch is a good reason to keep the Wii U. For the first time I have two main consoles hooked up.
Keeping the Wii U is a good reason anyway, because half of the games can never be replicated on any other device ever (at least not without much trouble). In turn that means higher collector's value for anything on Wii U compared to any other console.

Does the Switch have Netflix and Youtube? No. But even when my Wii U was connected I used a Chromecast
Does the Switch have a web browser? No. But even on the Wii U I never used that feature
Does the Switch have Virtual Console games? No. But neither did the Wii U at launch

However
Does the Switch have a truly portable mode that works away from the TV? Yes
Is the Switch's screen better than the 480p display on the Wii U GamePad? Yes
Does the Switch have Zelda already with Mario and Metroid on the way? Yes
Did the Wii U have any of those things? No

I loved the Wii U but lets be real here. Everything that made it great the Switch does better.

I wouldn't call the Wii U solution for save data backup "simple". Sure you could backup your data which is a more than the Switch has at this stage. But it was still pretty convoluted and generally required you backing up the game itself and all the patches along with it.

And with all the picking on Nintendo for that point there has been (justifiably I agree) there's still a positive move. Your digital purchases are in no way tied to your system. There's a checkbox in the eShop for setting a system as your primary system but that's about it. Once they allow saves to be moved around (and I'm sure they will) I don't think there's much to complain about anymore.

I offer you 57p and a bag of chips. Salt and vinegar optional. I might even throw in a sachet of sauce.

Deal?
