I wasn't excusing it I was just saying the Wii U implementation was also pretty garbage. And the fact that you can now log-in on multiple systems is a positive step that the Wii U (and 3DS) lacked. It's a change that means cloud saves are now possible with the way they've set it up, when it's implemented. Something which is likely to happen given it's one of the things they specifically mentioned when they launched My Nintendo.......

Does the Switch have Netflix and Youtube? No. But even when my Wii U was connected I used a Chromecast

Does the Switch have Virtual Console games? No. But neither did the Wii U at launch

However
Does the Switch have a truly portable mode that works away from the TV? Yes
Is the Switch's screen better than the 480p display on the Wii U GamePad? Yes
Does the Switch have Zelda already with Mario and Metroid on the way? Yes
Did the Wii U have any of those things? No

I loved the Wii U but lets be real here. Everything that made it great the Switch does better.

So not true. While you're talking about things that the Switch has that the Wii U didn't, here's some things the Wii U has that the Switch doesn't.

~ A D pad
~ a browser
~ a 2nd screen
~ apps
~ Virtual console
~ free online gaming(yes the Switch does for now)
~ Miiverse
~ ability to change batteries
~ backwards compatibility
~ ability to transfer games from Wii to Wii U
~ ability to transfer save files
~ a camera
~ a built-in microphone
~ and more besides.

The Wii U had VC and a browser at launch. There's no excuse why the Switch doesn't and what's worse, VC may not launch until next year. A year into its life, that's awful and there's no defence for it. There's been zero talk about giving it a browser. I watched Nintendo's E3 Spotlight and Treehouse Live just gone on my Wii U. Did you or could you do so on your Switch? No.

I wouldn't blame anyone for selling their Switch. I wouldn't blame anyone for not wanting one right now. There's literally nothing on it right now that I'm interested in. I've Zelda: BOTW and MK8 on Wii U. Not until Mario, XC2 and maybe Yoshi will I have any interest. I can live without them for a while, Yoshi won't be out until next year. MP4 is another game but that won't be out for at least 2 years. By which stage there could be a new model, maybe an evolved Switch or a Switch Lite.

And after this E3 I'd say there's people put off by the lack of 3rd party games as much as people are excited at the prospect of playing Mario.

@davetheshrew Well, I think that unless you plan to buy it again anytime in the near future (since you won't get back all of the money you used to buy it), you'll be alright for the time being with a Wii U. If not, you would be only wasting more money.

As long as you can wait for the price to go down in case you plan buying it again I guess it's a reasonable option, but frankly even if I try to be empathic I just see it as too much trouble just for having things that you can have in your phone and computer or that are almost useless like a remote tv function when you can simply use... well the remote tv control, or I suppose you can download apps on your phone for that.

I still don't have a Switch simply because I still have no reason to get it (yeah BOTW looks great but I'm not that much of a Zelda fan), but if I had one, I wouldn't sell it simply because a used console devaluates considerably and I have to sell it by myself since videogame shops will buy them at lousy prices. Much less if I know I'll end up getting another one in the end.

Go ahead and sell your Switch if you're that concerned for an all in one device, though I suggest to get another WiiU as yours is nearly dead.

Was Mariobro4. No, I'm not taking off my backpack...it's important.

Go sell your Switch. If you want a multimedia center get a tablet, a PS4/Xone, or a notebook. They can all do the stuff you want. Plus, the idea of "one console to rule them all" is bad, it foments a monopoly. Competition is good, and most economics theories will tell you that.

Why can't people research a little before buying their devices to see if they have the stuff they want? It is that hard to use Google?

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

If you use your phone for gaming your battery will die twice as fast. If you use your handheld device for media and Internet browsing, your battery will die twice as fast.

Here is the secret to happiness:

Use your handheld for gaming and your phone for the rest.

@skywake I accept that, this may all prove correct but for some people, it's too little too late and I have every sympathy with them. On a personal level, I support Nintendo because I value their products but I've no reason to trust their every word right now.

I should point out that most people are lazy and don't backup their stuff anyways. I personally don't care enough about game saves to manually back them up. So I didn't backup my Wii U saves and the only time I've backed up my 3DS in any way was when I got bigger SD cards.

The DS had no save backups, the Wii did but I never used it. Before then all the previous consoles I had owned, portable and otherwise, saved games on the cartridge. The only games I have where the saves were regularly backed up are on PC with cloud saves. I think most people are about the same. Cloud saves? They backup their stuff. Manual? Yeah, no, not happening.

So it really doesn't bother me at all that Nintendo doesn't have a mechanism to backup saves at this point. Especially when the way they've setup accounts and what they've said so far makes me think cloud saves are on the way. Eventually.

Nope.
I really want to buy Switch so bad.
Don't ever sold your Switch (pity of you if you did that) !
Switch has Internet Browser too, but it hidden inside Facebook link, watch from Youtube first.
I love my Wii U and I will paired with Switch later. Keep your Wii U and Switch together. That's my advice.

@davetheshrew

Well, it's not really true that it doesn't have a virtual console. There are a whole lot of Neo Geo games on it. But it obviously doesn't have Nintendo retro games yet.

It seems to me that if all you want to play is the stuff Nintendo already released, the Wii U is fine. If you want to keep playing their new games, you'll need a Switch.

Do you not have a smartphone? TV remotes, streaming, netflix, etc. are all available there. It's just as easy to use that for those features. Lots of TVs/Blue Ray Players have streaming/netflix.

I would like Netflix on my switch, but it's no deal breaker. It certainly won't be the 'best' place to do that.
The Wii U browser might be useful for some stuff, but it certainly is not a great browser.

If all you want is netflix and browsing get an iPad.

I, too, am almost ready to sell my Switch, because I only have 12 other devices in my house that I can watch YouTube on and I really want to watch 13 clips at the same time but I don't have $50 to spend on another tablet that can play YouTube. Also, the batteries died in my TV remote and it is such a HASSLE finding new AA batteries. No, I don't care about games, why are you even bringing games up, I don't see what GAMES have to do with my problems. Do you want to buy my Switch or not? It comes with these things called BOTW, MK8, ARMS, Disgaea 5, Street Fighter 2, Binding of Isaac, Fast RMX, Snake Pass and some Neo Geo stuff. I'm not sure what they are but I can't use them to get Netflix, that's for sure.

Oh yeah, and I got this thing called a "Pro Controller" too, what a stupid name. It fits in the hand pretty comfy and has these cool little thumbsticks that are sort of like a fidget cube, I guess it would probably be kind of cool if I was a fidgeter or if I was into games at all, so you might want it. But the damn thing STILL won't play YouTube even with the Pro Controller, so I don't know what kind of pros they are trying to sell this thing to but they darn sure aren't pro YouTube watchers, I can tell you that.

Wii U had netflix at launch because the predecessor Wii was pretty much the most popular platform in the world for streaming netflix.

Wii U was hacked through the web browser yes, but Wii U had the best web browser of any video game console ever. It is still one of the most used devices in my house for watching youtube.

3DS didn't get Netflix until the device became more popular. Netflix will probably want to make a switch app since the device is selling so well as long as Nintendo let's them.

On a side note, is there even the need to find exploits to hack a console which uses electronic cartridges as physical media support? I guess if piracy will happen on Switch they will simply begin to sell custom cartridges and nobody will ever even think about trying anything like the things they try on dvd based consoles because it would be unnecessary... or am I wrong? I mean I'm not really sure that browsers and things like that could be as harmful on Switch as they could be on a console that uses dvd because with electronic cartridges there are other ways I think...

blaisedinsd

@LuckyLand You don't need custom cartridges. DVD based consoles aren't hacked only by playing burnt games. They play games digitally.

Those are all valid reasons to not own a Switch right now. I still think the Switch released a year too early. It needed to have all of those things at launch.
