@Tyranexx what about Slavic and Japanese mythology?

It's sad, but Ys X Nordics still in development.

@AnVold Oh! I do like what I've found on Japanese mythology as well, though I'm not an expert on the myths. My interest was piqued by Okami when I first played it over a decade ago. Especially the Shinto elements. Comversely I confess I'm not well versed in Slavic mythology. I'd be interested in it as well I'd think. Just not exposed to it much. Outside of an obscure game I enjoyed on the Wii U called Year Walk. I believe that had Swedish influences.

@Tyranexx I remember Okami. It's a great game from PS2 that looks nice even on fullHD TV.

@AnVold Some very good examples there, though I've admittedly not played many of the others mentioned. I especially like the look of that Vita game; makes me wish I had one back in the day.

I knew The Witcher borrowed from different mythologies, but didn't know Slavic myths influenced them so much.

@Tyranexx Muramasa was originally released on Wii, then it was ported on PS Vita with additional content. It was developed by Vanillaware. Their games have a very nice 2D-style. It's GrimGrimoire, Odin's Sphere, Dragon's Crown, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim.

The Witcher have a high slavic folklore influence, because it's based on the works of a Polish writer . Kikimore, Striga and Leshen is very typical monsters from it.

@AnVold Ah! I didn't realize that Muramasa game was the same title as the Wii release. I figured it was the same series but different games. I do have experience with a Vanillaware game: the excellent 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. Played through it on Switch near the turn of the year.

I'll admit, I didn't know The Witcher franchise was based on a series of books.

@Tyranexx yes, it's a same game with little differences. I also have 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim but still not played it much. But I'm already sure that it's a great game like others.

I have read several books from this series and it's not as good as a game.

@AnVold 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is certainly worth your time, though I consider it a visual novel first, tactics game second. Both modes are fun in their own ways, and often you can't get too far in one without returning to the other due to progress locks. Some great music too.

@Tyranexx I know that it's certainly worth my time. The problem is that I have a many games that worthing my time like FATAL FRAME: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, GrimGrimoire OnceMore (another Vanillaware game), Soul Hackers 2, God of War Ragnarok, Fire Emblem Engage and etc, but I have not enough time for all of it, sadly. I want to finish games that I already started before playing 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim seriously.

I know it, I played it a little. In my opinion, the best Vanillaware music in Muramasa. For example:

@AnVold NP, I completely understand wanting to mop up other games first...and not always having time to do so. I quite like that track you linked from Muramasa, by the way.

@AnVold Oof, the Diablo series....Great series, but there's a reason I swore off many Blizzard-centric games ages ago. They can be timesinks. I was a heavy WoW player in my later high school years.

@Tyranexx yeah, their games may make you drown in them. In Cataclysm I never canceled my subscription. But WoW changed a lot and I don't like how it changed. So I didn't play in modern WoW anymore, but I play in Classic sometimes (I love Barrens and Thunder Bluff too much)

@AnVold I started at the tail end of Burning Crusade and played through a lot of Wrath of the Lich King. I liked Cataclysm, though I didn't play much at the time since I was heavily into college by then. Mists wasn't bad from what I saw, though I watched from the sidelines because...life. I did play a bit during early Warlords of Draenor, but it felt like they started running out of ideas by then. Plus I hated how they neutered talent trees and was not a fan of Heirloom gear; I was more in WoW for the story/leveling/PVE ride, not so much trying to power through to endgame stuff or do PVP. I've been tempted by Classic but haven't bit just yet. Barrens and Thunder Bluff are two of my favorite Horde-centric areas!

I'd be tempted to start again if I didn't have so many games to play already. Plus anything with a guild would be very difficult for me to set up at this point.

@Tyranexx I prefer talent trees before Mists too. I played actual WoW till middle of BfA and thought, that this game was still good and that I've "outgrown" this game. But then I played Classic I just saw a game that I really enjoyed and I got feelings that I felt a years ago. I saw, that it's not about me, but actual game was really worse then their early versions. After it I quickly decided to quit playing actual WoW, because It was pointless to play a game, that I can't enjoy anymore. So Classic is main version for me now What side you prefer? Horde or Alliance?

I started to play Classic alone, but it's more social game then modern WoW. You can easier find a party, good guild or even a raid. And I say not about Vanilla only, but about tBC and WotLK too.

P.S. Warlords of Draenor was a really tiny and lazy addon. But I liked Ashran. I got some nice titles from here like "Manslayer" and "Scourge of the Kaldorei".

@AnVold I've heard BFA is considered lackluster by many in the community. I mostly checked out by then; I still followed the series lore up until my brief stint in Warlords, then I sorta stopped caring when they started getting WAAAY into the alternate timeline stuff. Been there, done that. The problem with WoW is that Blizzard (well, Activision Blizzard now) kept modifying what wasn't broken IMO; sure, there were some issues, but some of the overhauls were unnecessary IMO. And I'm not an old fart by any means! XD I like both sides, but overall I prefer Horde. Though my two favorite races (Worgen and Night Elves) are on the Alliance side, but Horde has most of the races I'm fond of overall.

I'll be honest - I never really made it to endgame content in Warlords since I could mostly just play a few hours on the weekend at the time.

@Tyranexx yes, BfA was very lackluster and pretty boring. It's a session game more, then MMORPG.

It's so true. They broke everything that they can.

Tyranexx wrote:

Oh, I understand. I also thought about myself as "old fart" till I played Classic and saw myself that Vanilla and early addons was really much better then modern game. And I hate that they did with Sylvanas during BfA and Shadowlands.
I'm for Horde too and my main character is cat druid.

@AnVold That and I started to think they were running out of ideas when it came to the lore. Can't say I was happy with the direction Silvanus as a character was heading last I checked, though I admit it's been awhile since I've paid attention. Maybe they handled her well after all. Last I knew they were trying to make her into a sort of Lich Queen.

If I were to play again, it'd probably be Classic. I always preferred to play hybrid classes who could heal, namely druids, shaman, and paladin (Tried monk and priest, didn't care for the former and the latter is too squishy for my liking). I do like how they've expanded what races can have which classes though. Troll druid is probably my favorite combo.
