So what do you reckon - a remakester of a SNES rpg... you either know what it is and have already made up your mind, or you're a filthy casual who has little idea about it but find the 'RPG' label off-putting cos it must be for geeks only.
Personally, if it were me selling the game, I'd take RPG out of the title.
Whats your take? Knives out, let's 'ave at it!
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
The long name is honestly.. just too long. It took me a moment to remember what it even was. Super Mario RPG is to the point and what most people refer to it as.
Note also that the original Japanese version was just 'Super Mario RPG' without the Seven Stars part. I'm glad they took out the unnecessary words in the English remake title.
So I guess in answer I definitely wouldn't remove RPG because then you would have to add all those other words which, honestly, sounds more geeky than just saying RPG as well as being harder to remember.
Nay. The name, or rather the title, speaks for itself obviously and self-explanatory anyways. Oh...and Geno. Let's not forget Geno. That is another factor to consider.

DO YOU HEAR ME!?!
I feel like the same audience that would be butthurt at a video game being nerdy for having...RPG in the title can only be people stuck in a time warp from the time when Wind Waker's art style was considered to be gay (pejorative), if not earlier.
Mario RPG was almost always abbreviated to just 'Super Mario RPG' anyways so I think taking out the RPG from the title would actually hurt it in terms of recognition to the average consumer. Still feels a bit weird to get rid of the subtitle entirely for the remake but I think it's fine either way.

If people are put off by the letters ‘RPG’ then they’re probably not the target audience for what is undeniably an RPG. Maybe you could fool a couple people into buying the game thinking it’s something that it’s not, but they’d probably be pretty deflated to find out it in in fact, an RPG.
I just don’t think there’s much good to be achieved in obscuring the nature of the game. It’s like removing the ‘Golf’ from Mario Golf because if might be off-putting to people who don’t like golf.
The only people I can see benefiting from NOT calling it and RPG are people who know enough about RPGs to know they don’t like RPGs, but don’t know enough about Super Mario RPG to know that it is an RPG, so spend $60 on the game (despite not knowing what kind of game it is) purely because it has ‘Mario’ in the title, and then discover they actually do like RPGs despite their initial preconceptions.
That’s a very specific group of people to aim for at the cost of losing a concise, accurate, and widely understood title.
