I love Star Trek and was curious if there were other fans of the franchise on this site. I looked for other threads and there were two others but they were archived and could not be commented on.
My two favorite series are Deep Space Nine and Next Generation. I need to see some of the new stuff like Strange New Worlds and things like that.
I’m big Trek fan, I’ve always preferred thinky sci-fi stuff rather than special effects dazzling like Star Wars. Pretentious lecturing, tactical military thinking, science jargon I would google to see if it’s real or made up and philosophical mumblings are all the stuff that gets me excited!
Apart from that 70s cartoon which I can never seem to get far watching I love all the Trek. Give me doitering old man Picard exploring the idea of legacy, give me Sonequa Martin Green flexing her acting muscle likes a roided out power lifter, give me peed off rebellious young Zachary Quinto Spock who says Live Long And Prosper like he’s spitting in your face, give me Shatner who wants to explore space just so he can sex up every alien he meets, give me that evil nurse from One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest playing one of the most slappable villain ever seen in Deep Space Nine, just give me it all!
I’m a fan of Star Trek, I also like Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. I met Avery Brooks, Brent Spiner, Walter Koenig and Marina Sirtis. Unfortunately I passed on the chance to meet Patrick Stewart because he was charging $60 for an autograph instead of $30 the other cast members charged.
I'm relatively new to Star Trek and, annoyingly, I'm one of those people who feels compelled to watch things all the way through from the beginning - I've now nearly finished The Original Series and have also watched the first four movies. TOS certainly has some dull episodes but I like it overall and I'm looking forward to checking out the later incarnations. At the rate I watch TV it will probably take me literal decades to catch up, but there's no rush.
@Dogorilla Welcome to the Star Trek universe! Wait till you get it Next Generation that will amp up the series to the next level. I do enjoy the original series. Heck I even have a Gorn action figure.
@Themagusx1 Thank you! I'm guessing that was autocorrect and you meant Gorn? That's a cool figure to have - I liked the episode the Gorn was in, though I'll always associate the episode with Bill and Ted
Random but two of my favourite Twitter accounts are Gul Dukat who rants and raves like a Trump/Musk crazy man and Jellico posting cringe Dad jokes.
@Dogorilla yeah the third season in particular of OG Trek is dull as dishwater.
The first movie I watched before the series so it was only years later I realised the movie is basically a remix of a few episodes particularly The Changeling which has the same plot device of an Earth probe becoming all powerful and seeks big daddy. I don’t understand the hate that movie gets, too long sure, but it does what Star Trek does though.
@WoomyNNYes I’m fairness Next Gen had a good few weak episodes too, especially in the early seasons. Apparently there was lots of backstage drama with Roddenberry fighting the new team of writers causing it, the new guys didn’t like his ideas such as giving Troi a third boob for some weird reason.
Still Chain Of Command is one of my favourite bits of telly ever, watching Patrick Stewart slowly being broken down and then him screaming there are four lights in defiance.

@jump Are you implying that you like another series better than Next Gen that came after Next Gen?
@WoomyNNYes nah I like all of the Trek. Old Trek,
new Trek, middle age Trek, movie Trek as it’s all good. I was responding to the comment about Next Gen after Dogorilla mentioned they were watching the OG show.
IF I was forced to weigh in and MUST declare just one the bestest then maybe Deep Space Nine. Whilst it’s not as iconic as other shows it was consistently strong episode to episode avoiding dips more than the other shows. The premise alone of the Federation helping rebuild a formerly oppressed planet, a wormhole to a completely new part of space and the let’s have the Federation at war storyline despite some consider it breaking the spirit of Trek is a good one too.
Although Next Gen is one of my go to comfort shows when I just want background noise in the house.
@jump To be honest I don't think the first movie is very good, but I'm sure it would have been quite a different experience watching it in 1979 (not suggesting that's when you watched it, don't worry), when it was the first time seeing a cinematic version of Trek and the special effects were cutting edge (they still hold up well actually). I just would have liked a more interesting story to go along with the endless shots of Sulu and Chekov marvelling at the special effects!
@WoomyNNYes So I've heard! It will be a while before I get to it as I won't have a lot of free time coming up, but I'm looking forward to seeing it eventually
I’m always up for Trek talk! I own DVDs for TOS, STTNG, and all the classic and Picard movies, and have seen chunks of DS9 and Voyager. I love Star Wars, too, but it’s appeal is more fantasy and spectacle than Trek. Star Wars never brought me to tears like The Inner Light, The Offspring, or The Wrath of Khan.
Yesterday’s Enterprise was such a riveting high-SF story, too. And episodes like The Measure of a Man and The City on the Edge of Forever really made me think and feel for the characters and life in general.
I’m not subscribed to Paramount and haven’t seen any of the recent shows, but I still think of myself as a Trekkie at heart. I have a Worf action figure signed by Michael Dorn stored around here somewhere. 🖖🏼😁
