The Simpsons stopped being funny (and relevant, for that matter) before the turn of the century. When they were good, they were good, I'll give 'em that much.
My favorites have always been the Halloween specials.

The Movie should've come out at least a decade ago, to be honest. There were some parts of it that were hilarious, but other parts just weren't that funny. :/ I'm glad it did well for them anyway, though. :3

I didn't like the movie much either... reminds me of the 2nd futurama movie, everything that had nothing to do with the plot was just hilarious (DEATH BALLS!!! lol) but the plot itself just plain sucked. It didn't suck as bad in the Simpsons movie though.

Funnily enough, the movie actually was supposed to come out a decade ago. The Camp Krusty episode was supposed to be a movie, but since they couldn't extend the script beyond a typical episode, it stayed as such.
The Simpsons movie wasn't as good as it could've been, but it was a helluva lot better than what I expected it to be. I pretty much lost all hope in the series after that god-awful 18th season. If you ask me, the series didn't start to decline until about season 13. I'm a little biased though, since I didn't get into the series until about season 11. Watching it now is just painful. I praise it for lasting 20 seasons, but now I wish the series would just die.
@ricardo: The Simpsons was great back in the 90's, but i think it's slowly on its way out, with McFarlane's shows taking over Sunday nights now.

The simpsons...they are a very big part of my childhood and teenagehood. They will always be one of my favorite series. But I cannot stand the new ones. The jokes are hardly funny and the Halloween specials are too dumb and gross. The movie was OK. Pretty funny but it came a little too late. Seth Macfarlane...ugh how I loath his "works". I prefer not watch anything than watching FG or AD or CS. I can't believe that the simpsons will be substituted by those things.
i know, right? I love Family Guy, but American Dad and The Cleveland Show are very hit-or-miss.

Prefer Family Guy and South Park nowadays, Simpsons glory days are long gone, some of the newer episodes are ok, but just doesn't seem to have that magic touch anymore.
I like the Simpsons, but the older episodes are indeed funnier. Enjoyed the movie though. I still think South Park is the funniest of all the American animated comedy shows. It just seems to reinvent itself all the time and the satire is just plain clever. I also like how it is always quick to adress hot topics that are in the news.
Family Guy has had very mixed seasons in past years, with crappy episodes and utterly hilarious ones. And the cutaway gags get so random at times they simply are not funny in any way. I've seen a few episodes of American Dad but I didn't like it as much as Family Guy's early seasons.
