I'm curious what NL thinks about what the current role of sibling relationships are in terms of their portrayal in popular media.
My personal thoughts: Usually, romantic relationships tend to dominate, so I personally find it rather refreshing when a piece of media really tries to portray how two siblings interact and get along. That is truly an important aspect of our lives, so it's kind of sad it doesn't get attention more often. This is one of the reasons the opening to Zelda: Wind Waker is one of my absolute favorites. Link and Aryl mess around and tease each other initially, but you can see they both care for each other. Then your adventure starts, not to rescue a love interest, but your sibling. It's also why Thea is one of my favorite characters on Arrow. I have a teenage younger sister too, so the entire arc of Thea and Ollie's relationship really resonated with me.

Romantic relationships between siblings? It just between characters? I don't think incest is that common. Or do you mean romanticized (As in ideal)?
No, not romantic relationships. Why does everyone imply that "relationship" means "romantic relationships". I mean relationships, as interactions between two people. In this case the interactions between siblings.

I'm mostly reminded that I still need to play Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons.
I think siblings can be a very valid fictional relationship focused story, as much as anything. Probably easier to do well than romantic relationships. But I don't have particularly strong feelings towards it beyond the times I've seen it done particularly well. Maybe because I'm somewhat of a friends over family type of person myself, so a sibling relationship alone isn't something that grabs me, again unless it's done particularly well.

They normally get removed. (If it was originally a book). To be replaced by something worthless. Lord of the Rings is a good example. The extension of the Arwen / Galadriel stuff was unnecessary.
Even Game of Thrones they kept the incestious relationship between Jamie and Cersei but missed out enough to make it uninteresting. (And added the rape scene that was unneeded as well). They place more importance on sex scenes than other parts as well. (Meaning some of the most interesting parts of the books are missed out or shortened. Even to the point where parts don't make sense without the books).
Cannot think of any other examples right now but it isn't that the content doesn't exist when it comes to books.

I wasn't implying anything, I was asking about what you said.
I think it was poor wording on his part.
He was trying to say that romantic pairings (husband & wife, etc.) tend to be more common in media, than sibling relationships are (even though they are just as important/common in the real world).

On subject though, I think sibling relationships are great when done well. A good recent is example is inFamous: Second Son. That game greatly benifited from a sibling relationship. Reggie being Delsin's brother really made the impact when Reggie died, the game mad him feel like you brother, and I almost cried because if it.
