Two very different games. Joker is more of a 3D type game that's a bit more modern in its design and presentation. The original is more 2D and features randomly-generated dungeons. I personally think the first game is still the better of the two, but it's a judgement call really. If you want the best one, get Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Tara's Adventure or Cobi's Journey. It's the best of the series to me.
