1. I was playing DQ7 on 3DS and stopped and now forgot where I left off. Is there a way to tell from my file where to go next?
2. In DQ3 I can’t save at the church and only with the king and this lady in blue. Is there a way to get to a town with permanent save option quickly from anywhere on map?

I can't speak for DQ III as I've not played that one, but Dragon Quest VII on 3DS has some type of adventure log that you can access in the Misc. Menu. It's very helpful if you've left the game for some time and can bring you back up to speed.

If there's a fragment you're after, there should be a "Next Tablet Fragment" option in the menu as well. The Fragment Detector is very useful too and is a QoL improvement in the 3DS version.

Good luck! I played through VII on 3DS late winter/early spring this year with a couple short breaks thrown in. It's a decent game - memorable characters, some neat story vignettes on some islands, a fun and versatile class system once that finally unlocks - though I admit the pacing can be glacial at times (And they even trimmed some of the fat off compared to the PS1 original). The game also could've wrapped itself up earlier than it did, though I still liked the ending.

PS - Good luck with Mirabelle, she's annoying.

Thank you for the info. It’s great to know that the game tells what to do next. It’s a long game and I took a break from it especially after grinding. I remember Mirabelle being bossy lol.

I hope they will eventually put DQ 4-6 on consoles. I played through DQ5 on DS and it’s a great game. I would definitely play it again if they port it to the Switch.

@Don No problem! There are some guides online too that are very helpful; despite all the QoL improvements, there was a time or two when I got stuck and consulted one on GameFAQs. Out of curiosity, do you know where you left off? Did you at least make it to Alltrades Abbey? That's roughly 20-25 hours in IIRC.

I'd like for SE to port DQ IV-VI to modern consoles too. While I own both IV and V on DS, I nabbed those back when SE still offered them on their online store. Dragon Quest VI was expensive even then. Due to the DS/3DS going out of production and the pandemic driving prices up even more, pretty much every physical Dragon Quest game on DS/3DS is crazy expensive even secondhand. As for III, I wanna play it but am waiting until the HD-2D remaster finally shows up. I have both XI S and IX currently backlogged anyway.

Just checked my file. Under info next tablet fragments, it says “There don’t appear to be any tablet fragments in areas that are accessible at the moment “. Not sure where I should go next. I have 5 green, 3 red, 5 blue and 4 yellow fragments. Under story so far, the last entry was “Kiefer cuts and runs”.

@Don Did you wrap up chapter 1 then? ||After Kiefer decides to stay in the past and stay with Lala and protect the Roamers?|| That's a lot of tablet fragments; I suggest returning to the Shrine of Mysteries on Estard and seeing if you can unlock any new islands. There are certain points of the game where you can do some of the islands in different orders depending on which fragments you have. I had to pick and choose at a couple points.

I wouldn't know, the only "Dragon Quest" game I've played is "Dragon Quest Builders", and it was mainly because I was waiting for a physical version of Minecraft to be released on Switch at the time and "Builders" is pretty similar, except there's no "free mode" until you beat the first chapter (and you don't get to adjust the difficulty, so you'll always go hungry and you can't fly around making cool pixel art).
