It seems as if Westerns have fallen to the back of the pack in this period in the ebb and flow of space and time; yet, it looks as if all that could change with two new unusual, outlandish and yes, out of this world excursions that will take us all the way back to the land of tumbleweeds, cactus and cowboy spurs.
Johnny Depp will transform into a cowboy Chameleon in Rango, a strange and magical voyage into the good ole days of the West. Rango finds himself wisked away into a little cowboy town reminiscent of "The Rifleman", "Gunsmoke" or "Bonanza". Having always considered himself the "hero" our protagonist dons the role of a sheriff and takes to strolling the streets catching the bad boys and maintaining peace and justice in the town of Dirt only to learn that things are bit upside down in this strange town.
One other film, namely Cowboys and Aliens takes Harrison Fold and Daniel Craig on a journey of epic proportions in a battle that pits the old west against aliens from outer space. [youtube:gfKWPNgTUlw]
