Power tends to corrupt. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

I'm not sure why I often look through these forums and am reminded of this quote. Maybe it is the amount of locked threads.

If there is a 70+ page thread about dsiware recommendations, for example, why is it such a bad thing to try to create a separate thread for an individual title?

Am I in the minority, or are most people in agreement that so many threads should be locked?

It depends. If your looking to create a thread to discuss a certain game, that's fine, unless there already is one. If you asking whether or not you should buy it, it should be posted in the recommendations thread.

The mods, who do a great job, lock these threads to contain discussion of a single topic in one area. If your switching back and forth through numerous threads that all are the same, it's effort. They want these forums to be clean and simple, and that can't happen when you have a single thread asking whether or not you should buy a game, when there is an already established thread.

What's with the three hundred threads about threads being locked? Are you all really so snubbed when one of your threads is cut off in favor of a different one?

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Surely it makes more sense to have a small thread for each individual game rather than a hugh thread discussing every game. At the end of the day these forums are supposed to be an area where people can ask questions to their peers. If it is all just shoved into an enormous thread the more esoteric titles tend to be ignored.

There is a difference. If your talking about an individual game, its game play, online, whatever, that exists in a thread about the game itself. If your wanting an opinion on whether or not you should buy the game, it goes in the recommendations thread.

First off, the locked threads would not happen so often if there were a merge function on the forums. Ant knows about it, and we should have that function when the forums are finally upgraded.

Secondly, your comparison is somewhat flawed — we try to keep discussions together is all, especially in terms of niche titles and whatnot. Sometimes it escapes us with larger titles (ocarina and M:OM have had many a concurrent thread on the forums, for example), and if the point being discussed is major and unique enough to stand alone, we'll let it lie. However, game threads happen all the time — impressions threads pop up every week like clockwork. The recommendations threads are not the same at all, and if you want to post in an existing thread where a given game is being discussed to ask if you'd enjoy it, you're more than welcome to do so. We've never stopped people from doing that.

Thirdly, (and perhaps ironically), this topic already exists, though perhaps phrased with more respect toward the moderation team. If you have anything else you'd like to say, feel free to take it there (or, if you'd like to bring the head honchos into the discussion, feel free to use the Contact Form).
