I want it to have an analog stick and more buttons and the ability to play all Virtual Console games off the SD card. Wouldn't that be cool VC games on the go!

2. Posted: Mon 4th May 2009 19:58 BST You most likely can on the DSi...In the fact the DSi just was released, you'll probably have to wait a while. Plus look at the world economy. Nintendo had reported a loss in profit for the first time in years on end...Now, Sony and MS have to shut down parts of their companies...hehehe |

Honesty, how long have you gamed? I've been around it since the days of Atari and I don't remember a time ever when a company would put millions into R&D and create a stopgap. The DSi was developed and planned for from the conception of the DS. If anything, the gray brick was the stopgap along with the lite. Secondly, why is it that gamers are so complacent with their systems. Why must they run their mouths so much online? Why is it if you don't have every damn thing you want 2 seconds ago you fly off the handle? I speculate on the age of many of you as I have seen this type of thinking before...Grow up all of you...This again is why I stay away from forums...I would bet money that I have many posts from users completely flaming me on this post...And I would say they are young...And then I would say someone will report this post and get it removed...Yet the garbage you all spew forth about how much Nintendo sucks and the current hardware and games suck is just fine...Well, I think all the Nintendo products rock and most of the games rock...And I would love it if you would shut up and listen to yourselves...We'll see how long this post lasts... 6. Posted: Tue 5th May 2009 17:42 BST 1. Nintendo is not likely to ever offer home-console VC games on a portable system. They'll keep the two wholly distinct, with no GB/GBA titles ever appearing on the Wii VC, no home console titles appearing on the DSi VC, and no ability to transfer. 2. They will also never put an analog stick on a portable; they'll almost certainly stick to the traditional buttons and the touchscreen. Doing so would honestly be a terrible idea anyway; analog sticks don't work well on portable systems, and Nintendo's hardware designers are pretty smart about fitting the input to the system. 3. If you're waiting for DS2, have fun waiting for a least a couple years. I pay close attention to Nintendo's overall strategy, and everything they are doing in the portable realm is aimed squarely at the feature set of the DS and the additional features of the DSi. All the talk of a cell-phone-like device was just media sources trying to drum up some sort of iPhone duel or completely misunderstanding what Nintendo has said on these matters. Nintendo is looking to push three new features / areas on the handheld market:
Couple this with the fact that the DSi already has greatly improved specs (yes, the GPU details are uncertain but the CPU is certainly twice as fast and the RAM is 4x the original) and the announcement that there will eventually be DSi-only retail games, there simply is no rational place in their strategy for a DS2 of any sort at this time. Hold your breath at great risk to your health and well-being. Edited on Tue 5th May, 2009 @ 17:44 by warioswoods |

13. Posted: Tue 12th May 2009 17:14 BST I see it two ways. 1) The DSi isn't a big enough hardware improvement to really be a successor, so it is a stopgap of sorts. Everyone in Japan already owned a DS, so now they're buying DSis. Also, it's a way of expanding on the current DS without completely alienating all existing DS lite/phat owners. 2) With the economy being what it is, combined with graphics beginning to plateau, I don't think we'll see the standard hardware/console sequels continue. The big 3 have already hinted at delaying the process, if not changing it up entirely. IMO, their best route would be to stick with backwards compatibility or XBL/PSN/WiiWare solutions for older titles. People still want to play them, after all, even after buying new systems. |

14. Posted: Tue 12th May 2009 17:43 BST Right, that is traditionally how handhelds work. Game Boy gave way to GB Pocket, which in turn became the GBC. Then we got the GBA, which was still very much a Game Boy, but also a new system at the same time. Still, that led to the SP, then the Micro. And this is ignoring Super Game Boy and Game Boy Player. The Game Boy has seen so many iterations of the same basic platform. I don't see why Nintendo should change a successful formula for the DS. Consumers are apparently more easily satisfied with portables. As for your comments about home consoles, I hope that's true. I don't like having to buy a new one so often, and I don't think it's good for developers either. |
