The slot on the bottom is for Gameboy Advance games.

It's officially called SLOT-2 if memory serves. It is used for Game Boy Advance games and as an expansion slot for certain software.

Bear in mind that this is not the place to be soliciting information regarding legally dubious content.

Thanks So I'm assuming there are games that are made for that slot?

@sillygostly Discussing mods and ROMs is allowed, provided it's not about current-gen systems, and as long as the post in question doesn't link to the illegal software itself.

@jusxusfanatic Yes, Game Boy Advance games fit into the bottom slot, like these:

I feel old.

I prefer the term "privileged". The GBA SP was the first game system I bought by myself.

Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)

Just be careful of what you buy and from where, GBA games have a huge problem with piracy and most of the knockoffs tend to be of less than optimal quality.

If it's of any use to you, if you're into stuff that isn't 1st party or has a diehard fanbase like Japanese RPG's, you're usually safe from bootlegs on the GBA.

For instance, I wouldn't worry about buying Activision Anthology. The pirates are going for the high dollar and/or high-demand games where as previously said, piracy is rampant, leaving the bulk of the library and scores of solid and often overlooked games safe to buy online.

Since it sounds okay to mention this judging by Octane's post. I highly recommend a Game Boy Advance Everdrive. None of the issues of primitive earlier multicarts from back during the GBA's commercial lifespan, and while it's like a DVD-R drive in that it's a piracy enabler, just like a DVD-r drive there are scores of free and clear uses for it such as the rapidly growing GBA homebrew scene.

Everyone thinks these equate to piracy, but I'm a big Atari 7800 fan for an example and don't even have any commercial roms loaded in my Cuttle Cart II (The Atari 7800 equivalent of an Everdrive), even though Atari/Infogrames or whatever they're calling themselves today allow those files for 1st party content to be hosted by AtariAge.com.

It's just scores of top notch homebrew games that frankly routinely put to shame what publishers like Atari were releasing during the NES era. Next to a Game Boy Player, a GBA Everdrive is the best accessory a GBA fan could get for themselves.

@jusxusfanatic Like some have already said, it is indeed called a SLOT 2 expansion port, and it is not only meant for Game Boy Advance games, but also for Rumble Packs, Card Readers and other compatible expansions.

Another interesting feature that not too many people know about, is that some Game Boy Advance games unlock certain features when used together with their DS versions/successors:

And here's all other info on the SLOT-2 expansion port, which should answer any remaining questions you might possibly still have:

The bottom slot can also be used for a Flash card module to play downloaded Game Boy Advance games with, but I won't link to articles or videos on those, for obvious reasons, but you can look for them yourself if you're interested. They're even sold on Amazon...
