I understand why IGN hates WiiWare and DSiWare, however the underlying hate is towards NIntendo and their ridiculous handling of their online content.
I have this game, and honestly it is a good DS game, it's good pretty decent graphics for a DS game period, quite a lot of unlockables (even 2 short movies) and good controls, and it's hard mainly because you need to get use to the controls. It's worth 1000 points... Though I REALLY wish it had some form of multiplayer, but this game could've gotten away with being a retail game....a crappy one but a retail game none the less. lol
Anyways, I hate NINTENDO for their handling of online, but I'm not going to take it out on the devs like IGN is. They work with what they can, and if there wasn't a moronic 20MB size limit for DSiWare I'm sure this game would've had multiplayer and better variety of graphics, maybe even more 3d videos.
Since NintendoLife (and so many others) published it's 8/10 review of Thorium Wars, I am now seriously considering getting it...

Oh man I hated that level. lol Just trial and error. Took me 30 minutes of dieing in the last stretch of lasers and beams. lol And that's not even the hardest level, probably the most annoying however.

i did it!
it took me 51:50 minutes to beat it . i needed a lot of patience to finish this mission ....
I love shooters. This game gets a good review. This game is a shooter.
I have plenty of money, so the moment I get my DSi back, I'm getting this and Dragon Quest Wars.
It's a great game! At first I was wary of the price point but after seeing the NL 9/10 review and d/l'ing it and playing it for myself, it is a great game... Very much in the vein of Star Fox/Top Gun, etc... Like was stated in the review, the story behind the game doesn't matter so much as the great graphics and missions, gameplay is excellent and I recommend this game highly to all shooter fans... It is well worth the $10 imho. We need more quality titles like this!

Updated impressions: I just had the chance to play the second mission, so now I've experienced both the air and land portions of the game (still haven't tried water or space yet). Contrary to some of my fellow posters, I think the first land segment is infinitely better than the first flying level. The selection of vehicles (I agree with Armand and jangonov that the Cerberus Tank is a bit awkward to control and that the hovercraft is the better pick for mission 2, respectively), freedom to move around and explore a little bit, desolate Star Wars Tatooine-ish feel, clear objectives, and overall smoothness of the second level are things straight out of a retail game. The only thing concerning me thus far is that this game may not have a huge amount of replayability, since most of the game's extras are unlocked from the start. Bottom line: I'm loving it. 2 bucks more than Asphalt, Mario vs. DK, and Mighty Flip Champs for completely through-the-roof production values (by DSiWare standards) and an actual presentation?! If this is the future of DSiWare, then sign me up for more.
Ok, ya'll... I think I'm on my second mission but I don't know if the game is saved and I'm too scared to turn this thing off... lol... Hard game! (for me anyway)... does the game automatically save each mission you've completed or do i just need to keep playing? confuzzid!

Wow. Ok, I've been stuck on the first mission for like a week now (lol, didn't play it that much at first but I am starting to today) and if you are saying the land portion is better than the air then this is going to be an even better game than I'd imagined!
Thanks for makin me love this game just a little bit more

@BB You might know this by now but the game saves after you beat a mission. And yeah, the first one can be hard until you get the hang of it. I expect I'll enjoy space more than air.
