Flipnote Studio is a free downloadable application for the Nintendo DSi in which players can make their own short animations and upload them to the Internet. Nintendo recently announced that a 3DS sequel, Flipnote Studio 3D, is in development. It will offer plenty of new features, such as additional colors and the ability to make different layers of 3D. Though Nintendo hasn't confirmed this, I really hope animations can last longer than one minute this time. Since Flipnote Hatena, the website where DSi Flipnotes are uploaded to, will be closing on May 31, hopefully that means the new Flipnote will arrive early in June. I'd say I'm more excited for this than any other Nintendo game. Check out the link to see more details about the game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0uvZiO0Wgo Comment what you guys think about the game.

According to the website, the fee for Flipnote Gallery World is $0.99 per month. But you can go on between 3:00-7:00 PM for free. However there are 2 ways to get a free 30 days:
Collect Coin Points as a Flipnote Creator:
Earn good ratings by posting quality flipnotes. You will receive Coin Points based on how well your flipnotes are rated by the community. After earning a certain number of Coin Points, you will receive a pass to participate over the next 30 days for no additional charge. Additional details will be provided closer to launch.

Collect Collector Points as a Flipnote Collector:
There are other ways to earn points besides creating flipnotes. You can participate in the community as a collector. A collector finds and rates quality flipnotes and creates a collection. Your collection will be shared with other users. When a lot of visitors view your collection, you'll earn Collector's Points. If you earn a lot of Collector's Points and get a high Collector's Ranking, you may be awarded a pass to participate over the next 30 days at no additional charge. Additional details will be provided closer to launch.

The website also says this:
The time is configured according to Current Time info in System Settings of Nintendo 3DS.
Does this mean that you can simply change the time to make it free by simply changing the time to 3:00-7:00?

So...the people who use the app the most will get to do so for free, while others who want to check it out more casually will have to pay? Seems like the pricing is backwards.

^It rewards hard work.

I can't see too many people picking up a subscription with the free times. The majority of the people who used Hatena it seems like were under 18. Thus, they'll typically be home around those times.

This is a signature.
Link goes here now.
Screw you.

I really like Flipnote STudio, and am SO EXCITED for Studio 3D. Literally the reason I'm buying a 3DS.

I like the Collector idea, hopefully highly ranked collectors will be able to get REAL quality flips featured, not just One Direction drivel. Really excited for the app, going to try to become a popular creator.

subscription price is low, so i'll probably get this. i also like the free gallery times. begins at 3PM and ends at 7PM. 3PM is around the time most kids get home from school, so they can look in the gallery, but also ends at 7PM, giving those with bedtimes (i had a 9PM bedtime, so do my great-great-great grandchildren) time to study, do homework, etc. those times are A+
i think i'll be using this app mainly to get story ideas across with animation, kind of like a story board.

Yeah, those times are pretty useful. I'm already brainstorming ideas for series. I can't wait til july 3 (right?) when it comes out in Japan. I'll have to find videos of the app on Youtube, to see how it all works.

Only thing that disappointed me was the fact we all need to pay now for full scale access.
Even though I will end up paying for it's services anyways..
But the coins system thing sounds interesting, and I hope they do allow you to do more with sounds, music, and the overall length of the flipnotes. They should also do something with the flipnote limit, since it's on a stronger hand held, it should be increased or with more tolerance.

I agree. They should have kept access to all flipnotes free, then have the premium stuff reachable by pay. Not everyone has time to work on those.

Doesn't seem backwards to me...and it's not people who use it the most, it's people who use it best. People who use it casually get to view and post flipnotes between 3pm and 7pm every day for free. If you want to rate, comment, and download, then you have to buy the 30-day pass with Coins.

I have already actually created a large list of features I'd like...copypaste go!

Features Flipnote Studio 3D Should Have

One-Click Saves: In Flipnote Studio, you have to click twice to save. This is only to specify where you want to save it, but come on. You should only have to do that the first time you save that. Let the "save as" button be accessible with the L button.

Zooming In: I shouldn't have to explain this one. Not everybody has perfectly steady hands to work on those tiny details.

More than 1 color per layer: Don't tell me the 3DS can't handle this. It can play Netflix. This one feature would make the whole package SO much better it's not even funny.
EDIT: Seems to be confirmed, look at the sample flips with way more than three colors.

Play from current frame: When you're trying to sync lip movements up to one-minute audio and you have to watch the whole thing to try and mark the frame the next consonant the character is saying, it gets old.

Better local organization: The "sticker" system in Flipnote Studio is a nice thought, but what if we gasp download more than 4 types of Flipnotes we want to organize? Either give us a Gmail-style label system, or the ability to create folders or organization.

Use music/audio from SD card: Probably won't happen for copyright reasons, but come on Nintendo, you can explain that away! Just create a form for copyright holders i.e. what Hatena has. If not including it won't stop people from using copyrighted music and audio, why not include it?

Support for typing/fonts: Not everybody has beautiful calligraphy, and this would be a pretty easy feature to add. It would also be cool if we could create our own fonts for typing, without the copy/paste method from Studio.

Features I Want To See In Flipnote Gallery World

Downvotes: In the Iwata Asks for the original Flipnote Studio, they said they didn't include downvotes so people wouldn't feel bad. But then One Direction fanfics came along, and a handful of people gave enough positive feedback to make them popular that everybody had to see them. Just a simple upvote/downvote system, with the option to add the flip as a favorite.

Tags: Hatena tried to do this with Channels, but channels ended up being redundant and annoying, with people trying to link every flip to their channel for green stars. Nobody gets credit for creating a tag, so there's no reason to abuse this system. (Also, 'citizens' or people who have been around for a while should be able to edit other people's tags, who just add as many tags as possible so more people see their flips. Tag changes would be logged so you can report people who abuse the tag editing feature.)

Hide tags/creators: Also an idea that came from 1D fanfics. Just set your profile to hide the "one direction" tag and you can finally sleep at night. Also there were popular creators on Hatena I couldn't stand at all (i.e. MsMetaFan), so the option to hide them would be welcome.

Type comments: You think you can see the F-word in there, but other than that, you have no idea what this ten-year-old is trying to tell you. delete.

Rating system: Not saying I want porn on Gallery, but when your flip gets reported for saying the "hell" word things are ridiculous. Just a way to flag flips with objectionable content, and hide them from little kids only.

Weekly Topics: Not much else to say here. Hope Nintendo's administrating is as cool and involved as Aaron from Hatena.

2 taps to watch a flip: Okay, this one needs some more explaining. On Studio's version of Hatena, you couldn't see the title or creator of a flip without going into details. (You couldn't add them from the DSi either and I hope Studio 3D fixes this too!) So I'm hoping that one click will bring up a mini-window with the creator, title, and first few lines of the description, as well as a "Play" button. Also, the flip being played should stay on the top screen no matter where you go on the bottom screen. In Studio, if you accidentally tapped the bottom screen at all while a flip was playing, you had to load it again.

Personalized Homepage: When you log onto Gallery on the PC or 3DS, you should see a homepage with new flips from your favorites, popular flips, and flips that are related (tags) to flips you have upvoted in the past

Well in any case that's how I would do it. Nintendo should hire me.

Those features would be sick. The 3ds should be able to make much better flipnotes now..
I hope you can directly import songs from your SD card, this way the sound quality would be much better. Same with Sfx
