Hrm. I've got old skool NES Tennis. And another tennis game I didn't care for. What do u guys think of this one? Is it worth the high price?

I'll wait for a review, but I like the look of this one (something about that anime character design, and the art style in the environments justs looks pleasing).

I like the generic anime designs in a bad it's good way. Not too big a fan of Tennis so I'm definitely waiting for a review on this one. Hoping it'll be a cheaper better alternative to Mario Tennis Open.
The Family series was notable for negative-to-middling reception on WiiWare it seems, but Tennis was one of the better entries. Haven't played any of them so I can't judge.
This is a signature.
Link goes here now.
Screw you.
The WiiWare version got a 6 (Nintendo Life), but it also had a ton of competition on Wii (with a free tennis game in Wii Sports, and all the various Wii Sports knock offs).
With the only notable tennis game on 3DS being Mario Tennis Open, this could be it's time to shine as a less expensive way to get your tennis fix on the system. With that in mind, and with the fact that this new version is adding some new characters and features, I'm expecting it to get a 7 at least, and if it does, I'll pick it up.

Only played a couple of quick matches so far, but I liked what I saw. The graphics aren't the best on eShop, but it still looks nice & I enjoy the anime visuals (the ball has an unusually thick outline, but I'm guessing it helps you to keep tabs on it, and it never annoyed me). The only negative thing I can say about the visuals is the 3D, which is implemented poorly, but this is essentially a WiiWare port.
Not sure how many game types there are, but the game has a total of 8 characters & 6 courts, not all of which are unlocked, so there seems to be a decent amount of replay value for what it is (there's also a gallery with stuff to unlock). The only missed opritunity IMO, is that there's no online.
As for the gameplay itself, it was solid. you have normal and power shots, and when there's a glowing circle on your court, thats your chance to really blast it past your opponent. You'll also be happy to know that there's special shots (a meter builds up as you play, and when full, you hit L + R to launch a flashy special shot).
The menus are all in English, but the voices are all Japanese. I personally love the Japanese VA, but that'll vary from person to person.
I'm sure there's more to the game, and I'll get back once I've played some more.

I want to correct something I said last time. All 8 characters and 6 courts ARE unlocked from the beginning.
As for game modes:
Quick Play - the game randomly selects a couple of characters & a court, and throws you into a match
Free Play - Pick your characters and court, and go at it. It has singles matches and doubles matches, 3 difficulty settings (beginner, journeyman, & pro), and you can set the number of matches & sets.
Tournament Play - Haven't tried yet.
Mini Games - Has three different minigames. Haven't played any yet.

I do? Well, when they are available in the eshop for me, I go look and see if anyone has created one. If someone hasn't, I create one. Call it the OCD'ness in me lol I love hearing impressions of all the games released so I try my best to help others out, too

Finally played Tournament Play - You play a total of four matches. each match is a 2 game, 3 set match, except for the final match, which is a 2 game, 5 set match.
Also, this game is surprisingly difficult. I've been doing the beginner difficulty, and although I haven't lost (except for my very first game), every match has been close. I'm nervous about finding out how difficult the journeyman and pro difficulties are. I'd almost go as far to say the Tournament Play mode isn't suited for portable play as well (it took between 30 mins & 1 hour to get through the tournament I played). Quick Play & Free Play are perfect for pick up and play, though.

from what RR529 says, its sounds pretty good, beats having to pay a extra over 30 bucks for a 3ds tennis game(mario tennis) although theres the gb tennis game, but its not that good.
Just discovered my least favorite character, Cuz. He has a more powerful play style, so I'm always overhitting the ball and sending it out, lol (he's good at serving though, I nearly always get an ace serve with him). I just need to learn how to use him better.

Completed my first Journeyman level tournament. A nice step up from beginner, but not overbearing. Going to complete a few more before upping to pro difficulty.

Beat the Pro difficulty tournament. Seems almost easier than the other difficulties in some areas, IMO (your opponent seems to only want to make big moves, and if it works they get you, but most of the time they're not prepared for you hitting it back, whereas in the "easier" difficulties, they play more technical games instead of always going for the big shot, and provide a better overall challenge, IMO).
SPOILERS when you win the pro tournament, you unlock character artwork (in the gallery) of whoever you were using, although it's just the artwork you see everytime you complete a tournament. END SPOILERS
Do you think Mario Tennis Open is worth the $30-40 asking price?
Just for the record, I have not downloaded Family Tennis, because I'm saving up for other games that are coming
