The markets getting more crowded + the cost of living is getting more expensive, so it's fair to increase the price. I expect to see more indie developers raise the base price of their legacy games going forward, and for indie games to cost more in general.
It's a really fun game but I just wish these sorts of retro revivals had a bit more length to them. In particular, I'd love to see a hard more which rearranges the stages to use the mechanics in more challenging ways.
The theme for me is Deeply Refined & Improved but Ultimately Safe Sequels. Splatoon 3, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Bayonetta 3, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, God of War: Ragnarok, Horizon: Forbidden West, even Elden Ring to some extent, as it's combat model is pretty much Dark Souls III. Once again, indies are still putting the more interesting titles.
I'm looking forward to Zelda Tears of the Kingdom and I'm hoping that it bucks this trend of safe sequels.
@Paraka I wonder if that's intentional to cut down on animation time and spend more time on filling up the game with content. Their last game Slime-san had a pretty bad art style but it allowed them to put in a ridiculous amount of content as the game only had 4 colors at a time. I'll take the content over better art direction personally.
@gaga64 Those are bonus levels in the arcade not the main attraction. There are couple more Mario recreations in the game I'll admit, but you fixate on 1 shot from a 90 second trailer full of wild level designs. The 3 levels in the demo ARE original and were great fun to break with the moveset.
I think people are dismissing how good the level design and movement looks in this game, because of the artstyle. I've played the demo and the movement feels so good. I'm expecting this to be one of the best 3D platformers ever made. Hope it lives up to that.
@rjejr Metroid Dread got the biggest reaction I've seen from a Nintendo-related thing since Metroid Prime 4. Metroid is bigger amongst people who've been playing Nintendo before the Wii era, and I think there's a large sect of the Nintendo community with a bias towards IPs that were prevalent in that time. Hence, newer stuff like Bayo and Splatoon isn't as big of a deal to this group.
I'm hyped for Metroid more for the fact that it's a AAA Metroidvania, than its importance to the series it's attached to. I was big into the Wii U in my teenage years and grew up being excited by the likes of Splatoon and Bayonetta 2 on the Wii U.
Personally, I thought this was a strong direct. Nintendo Directs are almost always 2 big announcements then updates on existing stuff. The updates on Bayonetta 3 and Splatoon 3 are making me more excited and actively thinking about those games, where I wasn't so much before. Splatoon 2 was bleh for me, and 3 seems to fix my issues with it. Banjo on Switch was also really unexpected after they didn't do it on previous VCs. Some good shadowdrops with Deltarune and Castlevania Advance Collection. They gave us a good number of things to look forward in the near future with Smash and AC Directs, and the distant future with Kirby 3D and the other 2022 titles not shown here. They also had the funniest gaming-related announcement since Final Fantasy Origins: Stranger's Paradise with the Mario movie cast reveal.
I guess I'm lucky in the sense that my tastes are pretty diverse, so this Direct did a lot for me. I found the February direct meh and the E3 one to be pretty good, though the back half of it was weak. This Direct was the best one since February 2019.

@ParadoxFawkes Please try UNSIGHTED. It goes full sci-fi rather than medival fantasy, and has some really great dungeons.
