Demon Turf is all set to be the next release from the publishing arm Playtonic Friends, with confirmation (following its previous appearance on the eShop) confirming a 4th November release. Developed by Fabraz (Slime-san), it blends 2D and 3D platforming with a broad range of environments and some big-scale boss fights.
As you can see in the trailer above it's got a rather quirky style to help it stand out; like Slime-san it looks set to throw in a lot of content and replayability, too:
Demon Turf is a unique offering with it’s community & replayability at the very core of it’s development- the full game will boast:
Self placed checkpoints - Show off without them for a perfect run, or place one in preparation for a challenging section. You can even teleport between these checkpoints if you missed a collectable along the way!
Return Levels - a brand new take on progression, take a victory lap and explore previously beaten levels to discover their liberated state, with plenty of mechanical and environmental changes to uncover
Physics driven combat - How do you defeat the demon hordes when none of your own attacks are actually lethal?A special physics-driven combat system that ramps up the chaos and fun. Push, pull and spin your enemies out of your way and down cliffs or into spikes.
Mouth Watering amount of side content - 50 specific locations/characters to line the walls of an empty gallery. Fend of 25 arena challenges worth of enemy waves. Tackle 10 Demon Soccer Golf courses that put a bizarre twist on ball-pushing puzzles. Collect 8 cartridges to unlock remixed throwback levels from glorious 3D platformers of the past
It'll cost £19.99 / €21.99 / $24.99USD; let us know if you're tempted to pick it up on 4th November.

I love the art style in this game!
This looks kinda interesting, hopefully we get a review.
The 2D characters in a 3D world is visually arresting, and it works. Hopefully the gameplay is good, because Limited Run Games' print run is mighty tempting.
The demo was nice but it felt like it's one of those games stripping a random common aspect out in the hopes of making it more unique. As the description says, you don't actually kill any enemies, it's got its "unique physics-driven combat" but all that turned out to be in the demo was pushing the enemies away awkwardly. It felt unsatisfying. Maybe that changes in the later game. Because if you could actually yeet your foes, that would be quite fun. But even then...let's say you smash them against a wall - and nothing happens? Idk, i'll have to see about this.
I hate the art style in this game!
Seriously, that colour palette turns me right off. And the game didn't look up to much either. I stopped watching half-way through as I hadn't seen or heard anything I'd like.
@gcunit - Glad I am not the only one not taken by the style.
The whole trend of 2D characters in a 3D space, although understandable, looks rigid and often times clash for me.
At least it's not another "buddy platformer with animals" trend again.
@Paraka I wonder if that's intentional to cut down on animation time and spend more time on filling up the game with content. Their last game Slime-san had a pretty bad art style but it allowed them to put in a ridiculous amount of content as the game only had 4 colors at a time. I'll take the content over better art direction personally.
Looks wonderful, definitely keeping an eye on this one.
I wish they'd just done a super low poly character or something, I'm not against 2D sprites in 3D environments at all but here it seems to be used as a shortcut and to do it properly it's really the opposite. Also not make nearly every scene basically monotone.
Neat visuals. I'll keep an eye out for this one.
@rayGMR - I wouldn't put it passed the idea to save on animations and optimization by doing this. But it's arguable if the styles they chose helps with appeal, it's definitely jarring to me.
I can understand it, and can't fault them for attempting. That's doesn't mean I have to like it.
The art is cute. I like the idea of self-made checkpoints you can teleport to to gain missed items. Not so sure about the combat, but I'll be interested in what the reviews say.
I like the zany world to explore. But the 2d really clashes with the 3d in this and continues to scramble my brain watching it. Also never been a fan of any music Splatoon like. Other than those two things. Looks fun to explore.
