Re: Rumour: Switch Pro Was Real But Got Cancelled, Claims Digital Foundry

@Mjoen There's zero reason for Nintendo except Steam Deck and other PC handheld's are emerging alongside the ever evolving concept of cloud gaming. They aren't in danger of loosing market share now, but they (potentially) will be in 5 years. Also nintendo rests on their laurels all the time which is why they have booms and busts. It's just SO frustrating to see the high quality software IP they've developed so lovingly get constantly shafted by their poor underperforming hardware group and red headed step child services group because it's Nintendo, a huge old buttoned up Japanese corporation that focuses on a consistent brand reputation above all else.

Nintendo should create an external full power GPU dock solution for Switch 2. Make mobile gameplay crisp smooth 1080p, scale up and smooth graphics for 4k using a dedicated laptop type GPU that draws power from the wall and can output at HDMI 2.1. Call it the Power Dock. I'm sure whatever they're working on will be insanely underwhelming performance wise on launch as always. They hardly even try. They're all about hit and miss gimmicks that innovate but never perform well.

@JazzyBeat Seriously, most switch games have low or zero textures as it is. The fact that they can barely muster 30 fps consistently on their most optimized titles, let alone the standard of 60 is ridiculous. How people play through the lag, ghosting, stuttering and frame drops is beyond me. I get a severe eyestrain and headache playing switch. Using mclassic has helped immensely. The fact that a random third party could create a small inline external graphics accelerator years ago that makes this creaky console look so much better just shows how little Nintendo cares about performance.

@nickeddowes That'd be cool, but nintendo can barely succeed in doing one thing at once, let alone two. Their family friendly brand and IP exclusives niche they charge a king's ransom for is what keeps them alive despite their mediocre hardware, awful online services experience, and their negative interest in anything live service or multiplayer.

It's frustrating witnessing these unique amazingly and lovingly crafted titles being shoved onto a decade old hardware platform that stutters and lags just so they can rerelease it 5 years later practically untouched, but no longer laggy, for full price.

@FroZtedFlake well what’s eating human flesh? Think of all manner of things humans eat off their body bleck due various fixations. Then there’s things like people cooking and eating the placenta post birth which is considered highly nutritious. Okay I’m going to go throw up now.

@Zebetite I love these reviews where people go in, clearly not finding the game’s genre their cup of tea, with the idea that somehow they’ll be blown away by some new feature or something. Only to leave a mixed review simply because they know it’s not a bad game, just not one they’d enjoy playing. That said, single player falling short has forever been a focal point of criticism for splatoon series and sounds like they went for mediocre on this release too. I’m sure a DLC will up the ante like last time.

Re: Someone Thinks They've Resolved Nintendo's Joy-Con Drift Problem With An Incredibly Simple Fix

@NEStalgia (smh) People think WD40 magically fixes everything. Most people don't realize it's a metal corrosion cleaner(not a lubricant). People are filling their joyconns, something they hold in their hot sweaty hands for hours, with WD-40... a corrosive chemical agent meant to remove rust. I don't know if WD-40 is a straight up carcinogen, but I'm betting it's not very good for you either way when absorbed over long periods of time. All to mend a joystick that Nintendo will fix for free if you can be patient.

@RainbowGazelle 16-bit was fine too at the time. It's a myth that anything above 4k is pointless. Advancements are not pointless until your eyes and more specifically the ocular processing of our brains won't be able to tell the difference between seeing what's on a screen and looking through a window in reality. The DPI has to be very high for that and we're quite far from that level of immersion especially for large displays. For that we'd need something like 16k and 120fps with perfect coloration/lighting. We have a ways to go. I'll take good gameplay and steady high FPS over photorealistic graphics with boring gameplay and huge fps drops any day, but that doesn't mean I won't appreciate these advancements. The only reason the switch has these issues with FPS is it's crammed into a tiny mobile format that requires low power draw and low heat. It was a bit of an stretch by Nintendo but understandable considering how successful of a competitive differentiator it ended up being. Hopefully they'll give us flexibility to down res in docked mode this time around or use DLSS aggressively.

Re: Ubisoft CEO Believes The Next Generation Of Consoles Will Be The Last

parkerthon

What is this french CEO huffing glue or is he really that clueless about gamers? I guess that explains the string of lame releases Ubisoft has crapped out last few years. You got a CEO at the helm that is clueless. I personally have no problem with the concept of streaming but eliminating latency from streaming for most games is a major challenge even on local networks, let alone across the internet. Long long long way to go to be on same level as local console play for anything but casual gaming. He must also be completely unaware of the huge surge in streamers with serious spectator numbers that would have nothing to do with this madness.
